This Means Nothing to Me (Updated) 3

Thank heavens!

Microsoft has officially released the first Windows 7 beta. While it’s been one of the web’s worst kept secrets, Microsoft was still keeping quiet about the details and timing of the final release at the time of writing.

Prediction: Lots of favorable teaser articles from persons who think Windows is computing; followed by a much-ballyhooed release; followed by massive fail; followed by rumors of how the next next Windows release, codenamed Passaic or Fresno or something or other, will fix all the problems; followed by . . . oh, never mind.

Addendum, the Next Morning:

Typical Microsoft Bletch and Switch tactics.

Ok, I have to ask….What is “beta”? Also, is your prediction based on your love of Microsoft or tech support snottiness? (don’t get mean, now)

My prediction is based on Microsoft’s track record.

Beta means second-generation public testing version (“alpha” means first generation testing version). You can follow the link, download the beta, and throw on one of those old computers you have and test it.

Beta means not ready for prime time and it should mostly work most of the time, but no guarantees.

You mean the one sitting by the 55, waiting for water to douse it, or the other one, that Chris has upstairs somewhere?

I think I’m testing nothing. I have issues enough when something works right. Imagine the suffering if it didn’t work & I couldn’t tell if it were me, or the program!

    Nooooooooooooo………………

Some sites that I link to may try to track you, but that's between you and them, not you and me.

I do collect statistics, but I use a simple stand-alone Wordpress plugin, not third-party services such as Google Analitics over which I have no control.

Finally, this is website is a hobby. It's a hobby in which I am deeply invested, about which I care deeply, and which has enabled me to learn a lot about computers and computing, but it is still ultimately an avocation, not a vocation; it is certainly not a money-making enterprise (unless you click the "Donate" button--go ahead, you can be the first!).

I appreciate your visiting this site, and I desire not to violate your trust.
