Badtux cuts to the quick:

In the end, there are no nation lines on the globe when you look at it from outer space. Nations are an invention of Man, not of God, which makes it hilarious that there are so many patriotic “Christians.”

Goldman’s Sacks 4

Robert Reich explains how Goldman Sach helped Greece the skids, while filling its sacks. A snippet:

The crisis was exacerbated years ago by a deal with Goldman Sachs, engineered by Goldman’s current CEO, Lloyd Blankfein. Blankfein and his Goldman team helped Greece hide the true extent of its debt, and in the process almost doubled it. And just as with the American subprime crisis, and the current plight of many American cities, Wall Street’s predatory lending played an important although little-recognized role.

War and Mongers of War 0

Trevor Timm cuts to the chase:

For Republicans, the Iran nuclear negotiations have never been about getting “a good deal” for the US. They’ve simply wanted to preserve their ability to kill people in the Middle East whenever they want, and continue to indulge their fetish of American superpower.

A bit better.

Jobless claims fell 15,000 to 281,000 in the week ended July 11 from a revised 296,000 in the prior period, a Labor Department report showed Thursday in Washington.

(snip)

The four-week average of claims, a less-volatile measure than the weekly figure, increased to 282,500 from 279,250 in the prior week.

The number of people continuing to receive jobless benefits dropped by 112,000 to 2.22 million in the week ended July 4. The unemployment rate among people eligible for benefits declined to 1.6 percent from 1.7 percent. These data are reported with a one-week lag.

The polite put a sock in it.

Tooele County Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Johnson says the woman was sitting in a chair and was then handed the weapon when it was her turn to shoot. She went to stand up and shot herself through the bottom chin. The bullet exited through the bridge of her nose.

The boyfriend quickly put socks in her mouth and began driving toward Grantsville so he could get cellphone service and call 911.

Accidental politeness is the politest kind.

Derby Police Chief Robert Lee said a man was reaching for something in his pocket. A gun he had in the same pocket fell out and fired after striking the ground.

The bullet hit another man in the chest. He was taken to a Wichita hospital where he was treated and released.

No charges have been fired because, you know, stuff happens, and stupid is not a crime.

And, in more news of the polite . . . .
