Lowering the Barr 0

Elizabeth Dye reports that, though he may be popular on the Fox News circuit, William Barr has occasioned much discontent within the legal profession, which is less than amused by his (mis)conduct. She cites a letter from 27 distinguished lawyers (to quote her characterization) to the D. C. Bar Association calling for disbarring Barr. Here’s a quotation from that letter:

Mr. Barr’s client is the United States, and not the President. Yet, Mr. Barr has consistently made decisions and taken action to serve the personal and political self-interests of President Donald Trump, rather than the interest of the United States.

The Will To Return 0

A New Jersey teacher tells of her preparation to return to school. A snippet:

But now, as COVID-19 has uprooted the lives of so many — myself included, I did something today that I did not anticipate myself doing for another 10 to 15 years. My husband, another educator, and I updated our wills.

Badtux debunks the myth of the “thin blue line.” Here’s a bit of his article:

In short, cops aren’t holding the “thin blue line” between civilization and anarchy. They’re taking care of a relatively few criminals who want to hurt other people. There could be civilization without cops — in fact, there was civilization for tens of thousands of years without cops, modern police forces don’t arrive in history until the 1830’s, less than 200 years ago . . . .

The White House used to belong to the American people. At least that’s what I learned from history books and from covering every president starting with John F. Kennedy.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Take politeness out for a spin.

The man, Kenneth Dickerson, 57, was standing outside his home in the 8300 block of Hull Street Road “twirling or spinning the firearm on his finger” when it went off about 6:30 p.m. July 14, said Chesterfield police Lt. Brad Conner. Dickerson died of his injuries after being taken to a local hospital.

“It looks like he was literally playing with the gun, spinning it, and the gun went off,” Conner said.
