John Thaw, in the voice of Chief Inspector Morse:

To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.

If you are a mystery buff, find a way to watch Inspector Morse and its spin-off, Inspector Lewis. They are both superb.

Closing Books, Closing Minds 0

Apparently, words mean what Florida Man wants them to mean.

Hundreds of dictionaries earmarked for donation from a Venice Rotary Club sit collecting dust, precluded from being given to Sarasota County (Florida–ed.) students. Even dictionaries aren’t safe from the Sarasota Schools book freeze.

Originalist Sin 0

Noz has a notion, elegant in its simplicity, for calling out the orginalists’ duplicity.

Because it’s crystal clear that they are originalists of convenience. Originalism will go out the window if it doesn’t fit with what they want to do.

Misdirection Play, Show Us Your Papers, Please Dept. 0

The writer of a letter to the editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette sees through the smoke screen.

Aside:

Methinks the reason some Republicans and their dupes, symps, and fellow travelers are so interested in the affidavit is to find out who had the unmitigated gall to tell truth about Trump to law enforcement.

But I’ve always been accused of being a bit cynical . . . .

I used to wonder how persons who use their debit cards to buy $1.39 cups of coffee (just to pick one example) kept track of their bank accounts. Then I read about the overdraft fees that banks collect and realized, they don’t.

Here’s a hint: carry cash.

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

Equal protection under the law is a basic tenet of American democracy. That means, regardless of your social, economic or professional position, if you break the law, you will be held to the same level of accountability. Unfortunately, the rich and powerful have become so imbued with a sense of entitlement, that they believe this should NOT be the case for them. Trump is the textbook example, firmly believing that, no matter how egregious his actions, he should be excused because he is rich and has a golden toilet. This idea is echoed by the propaganda arm of the Republican party, Fox News, who tries to make this VERY democratic idea seem threatening to average, law-abiding Americans, when, in fact, it is only when this idea is abandoned that average Americans are imperiled.

The Party of Law(lessness) and (Dis)order 0

LZ Granderson reflects of the Republican Party’s about face. A snippet (emphasis added):

What’s more surprising than my ambivalence toward the FBI is how quickly “law and order” Republicans have turned against the agency. Since the raid at Mar-a-Lago, the FBI is discovering what it must have felt like to be a Capitol Police officer.

Apparently for this era of conservatism, “back the blue” applies only when it benefits the red.
