Backpackin’ politeness.

The day care center (in South Holland, Ill.–ed.) is closed Friday after a 9-year-old student coming for after-school care brought a gun in his backpack. According to officials, when the student set down his backpack, the gun inside went off.

We are a broken society.

I must say, I’m relieved that my days of hopping on airplanes once or twice a month are behind me.

Afterthought:

I’m so old that I can remember when traveling on an airline was a pleasant experience, when seats were wide enough to accommodate normal anatomy, and when one’s fellow travelers behaved themselves in a civilized manner.

Why do leaders and others want to keep some books away from people? Because of the ideas they contain. It is easier to control people if they have only one common set of information, if they are not fully aware of the complexity of the world and the myriad options it presents.
