Politeness again becomes child’s play.

A 6-year-old boy accidently shot himself in the hand with a gun he reportedly found while playing outside in Hartford on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police received a 911 call about 1:13 p.m. from the child’s father, who reported that his son was outside playing when he found a firearm and accidentally shot himself in the hand, according to the Hartford Police Department.

We are a failing state.

Thanks to the WordPress help pages, I was able to diagnose the problem and put a bandaid on it by disabling one of the plugins from the backend by renaming it in the phpMyAdmin file manager.

The children of the white families in town were not permitted to associate with me, because my father was committing the then unpardonable crime, in Southern eyes, of educating negroes.

Stray Thought, Still Rising Again after All These Years Dept. 0

The legacy of Richard Nixon’s odious southern strategy lives on.

In our politics, we no longer have a left-wing, a middle-of-the-road center, and a right-wing.

We have a slightly-left-of-center-wing, a characterless mush-in-the-middle that believes in nothing other than that in between is the place to be, and an unabashedly white-wing that wants to turn the clock back 160 years.

Debunking de Bunk 0

Robert Reich debunks the de bunk that Trump’s dupes, symps, and fellow travelers are telling themselves (and others).

He addresses five specific lines of bunkum. Here’s a bit from one entry (emphasis in the original); follow the link for the rest.

4. Trump has received preferential treatment because of who he is.

Trump’s defenders complain about a two-tiered justice system.

They’re right about that, but not in the way they claim. Trump has been given special privileges most criminal defendants would never get.

Reich goes on to remind us that

The principle that no one is above the law is only true if we make it so.
