From the Youtube page:

US President Donald Trump wants to build a triumphal arch across from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, the latest in his efforts to make over the capital city in his style. The so-called Arc de Trump would commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary next year and is reportedly being privately funded by Trump’s supporters. His other second-term developments include a gilded makeover for the White House, paving over the Rose Garden and constructing a $250m ballroom, as well as the clearing of homeless encampments throughout the capital.

“History Does Not Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes”* 0

Via The Sacramento Bee, Jackie Calmes hears a rhyme:

But what’s more striking is the sheer sense of impunity that Trump telegraphs, constantly, with the “je suis l’etat**” flare fo a Louis XIV . . . .

Follow the link for a parsing of the poesy.

**Whoopsies! But I arill think Calmes makes valid points.

Another “responsible gun owner” exposes a portable phallus to a child.

Officers found a 3-year-old boy shot in the hip at the scene, and he was conscious and breathing.

Police said an adult was cleaning out a closet and left a gun unattended, and the boy got hold of it. Police said they believe that this is an accidental shooting at this time.

One more time, “accidental” and “negligent” do not mean the same thing.

More news from the hunt for politeness . . . .

It happened around 3:30 p.m. when six hunters were traveling through the woods in a convoy of two ATVs and two side-by-side vehicles. Amber Oaks, 31, of Brewer, Maine was riding as a passenger in the last vehicle when the group stopped after the lead rider spotted a bird.

According to the Maine Warden Service, the driver of Oaks’ vehicle, 31-year-old Danielle Fernald of Freeport, exited to retrieve her firearm. As Fernald pulled her loaded 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun from the vehicle, the butt struck the roll cage. The impact caused her hand to slip and hit the trigger, discharging a round of birdshot directly into Oaks’ left knee.

So many guns.

So much stupid.

Danae is talking to here E. T. friend, Lars. Danae: So what's the best way to deal with A. I., Lars? Lars: Become an oligarch. Danae: Um, OK, how do it do that? Lars: Let's see . . . the prerequisites for this planet . . . You need to be a white male narcissist with inherited wealth and live in a country run like a banana republic. Danae: Well, I've got one out of three, so it's a start.

Via Breaking Defense, a site that specializes in military news, Valerie Insinna and Theresa Hitchens that they’re now coming for the military brass. A snippet:

In the Oct. 15 memo, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg direct Defense Department personnel — with the exception of the Pentagon’s inspector general office — to coordinate with the office of the assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs for all engagements and communication with Congress and state elected officials.

Yet another oxymoronic “responsible gun owner” discharges his responsibility.

Schmieding, who has a permit to carry a handgun, was dining with friends at Frank’s Pizza on Route 206. Authorities said that the investigation revealed that Schmieding removed a handgun from his holster in an attempt to clear ammunition, which resulted in the gun firing.

The shot struck an 89-year-old woman in her left leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital and in stable condition.

“Clear ammunition.”

I guess that’s one way of putting it.

I was pondering a post about how what Trump’s doing to the White House is analogous to what he’s doing to democracy, when I found that Bill Bramhall had done it far better than anything I had come up with.
