Wasn’t the Eighties movie with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood a big hit once? Time for a rewrite, methinks — Sir Guy! Or an alternative future Xmas Carol in which Tiny Tim is allowed to continue to sicken and eventually die. The crowd goes wild.

“Maid Marion, Robin’s girlfriend, was a played as a twit. The show lasted three months.” Bernie Koppell, Get Smart’s Siegfried (!), was in it. How could it have failed?!

I actually just finished watching all the episodes.
It’s clear to see why it flopped.
Mel Brooks is an all-or-nothing guy. His stuff either hits the bullseye or flies off into nothingness. No outer rings of the target for him.
The constraints of 70s television kept him from unleashing his sense of humor. You can be ribald or not ribald, but almost ribald just doesn’t cut it.
