New Horizons 2

Ziff Davis editor Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols suggests four reasons that Windows Vista is superior to Linux.

I’ll share number two. Follow the link the see the rest:

Reason number two: Linux is a pain to set up. With Linux, you need to put in a CD or DVD, hit the enter button, give your computer a name, and enter a password for the administrator account. Heck, you could break a nail that way! Almost all early customers of Vista will need to redeem their upgrade coupons and then replace their new PC’s XP with Vista. That’ll be loads of fun.

Hah! I got my copy for free from Microsoft and when I built this computer, I put enough high end parts in it to carry me well into Vista’s break-through to mainstream computing. And if my chip ever gets too slow, I’m running on a AMD-939 pin board, which is the pin assignment AMD chose to use for the foreseeable future for their mainstream workstation and home/office computers.

I won’t be outdated for a little while, at least.

    And your point is?

My webserver is an IBM PC300. It’s faster on Linux than my Pentium IV (for work) is on XP.

I guess one has a choice. Walk up the mountain unfettered, or walk up the mountain with a 50 pound, $300 pack on one’s back.

    Oh well.
