“Sore Losers” 0

So I was in a local Rite Aid yesterday looking for some loose-leaf CD sleeves (the kind that go into a three-ring binder; ended up having to go to Staples). I grabbed a soda (that’s a pop west of the Appalachians) and was waiting behind a lady at the checkout when I noticed this rag.

The cover was more outrageous than usual; I actually picked it up halfway out of the rack to look at and said to no one in particular, “I can understand why people read this stuff: what I can’t understand is why people believe it.”

(short discussion about how people turn to look at car wrecks)

The lady ahead of me looked over and grinned. “Some people will believe anything.”

“You know,” I said, “the nutcases are at it again. Some Republicans are filing suit to claim that Mr. Obama is not an American citizen.”

“But he was born in Hawaii!!!!!!”

“He sure was, and Hawaii has attested to the birth certificate.”

The clerk rolled her eyes. “Sore losers.”

Nutcases is more like it.

Finally, this is website is a hobby. It's a hobby in which I am deeply invested, about which I care deeply, and which has enabled me to learn a lot about computers and computing, but it is still ultimately an avocation, not a vocation; it is certainly not a money-making enterprise (unless you click the "Donate" button--go ahead, you can be the first!).
