I guess it makes entertainment value that Maddow would do that segment. However, I don’t see any other value if you’re not going to be blunt that many Republicans, certainly Mitt Romney, know when they’re lying and the reason they do it so is that it’s successful tactic because of the way a majority of white people receive their information and process it. It hardly matters at all that hundreds of people on Facebook have migrated to the Louisiana dingbats page to correct him. You can’t blow the guy off the net with corrections or unlike him out of existence. His voters, his base, don’t read it. Those who do don’t care because they’ve heard otherwise and there is no more point in reasoning with them than there is in chatting up the yellow slime mold on the leaf litter in your yard.  Their minds are not at all open to things that contradict their conspiracies. It’s a trait of those who follow authoritarians.

So actually your title is more succinct that Maddow through the whole segment. She yaps about mistakes. These are not mistakes and she knows it, too. But it’s funnier to talk it up the way she does for her audience of followers.

The Big Lie is what they do.

This also gives them a natural advantage in our ‘democratic’ system. When you have remade the rules so that people who spout falsehoods all the time can’t be removed from the playing field for, well — spouting falsehoods, debate, reason, making judgments based on fact, it all goes out the window. Permanently.
