Weave through traffic, politely.

Travis Heebner, 26, from Muhlenberg Twp., is accused of pulling out the gun at a busy intersection and aiming it at another car on Sunday.

Police say two victims reported that Heebner drove dangerously close to their rear bumper, passed them at a high rate of speed, cut them off, and then continued weaving in and out of traffic.

A bit later, he was waiting to turn and they asked him what the problem was. That’s when he was compelled to give them an etiquette lesson.

Just What Is “Legitimate Rape”? 0

PoliticalProf explains:

There is a segment of the pro-life community in the United States that is convinced that if the law allows any abortions at all, for any reason whatsoever, women will simply lie about how they got pregnant. . . . In other words, Akin seems to assume that a woman might have consensual sex, get pregnant, and then lie and claim to have been raped in order to be allowed to have an abortion she otherwise would not (in a pro-life country) be allowed to have.

Republican Science–How It Works 0

Republican science is a fraudulent construction detached from reality (see, for example, “climate change,” “human sexuality”), created to support the goal of rich-richer-poor-poorer by marshalling hate and fear to cause distraction.

It is a misdirection play on a grand scale.

The Commander Guy describes the dynamic quite well. A snippet:

Note to Wingers: (1) Rightwing mythology keeps the rubes confused and angry. That is what it is for. (2) You don’t need to believe it to use it. (3) When confronted with truly toxic rightwing mythology (as a Republican candidate–ed.), you either need to bat it down forcefully or pretend you are unfamiliar with the specifics of the particular myth but will look into it.

Republican Science Is a Wonderful Thing, Reprise 0

Philly dot com, after extensive investigation, has uncovered addition tenets of Republican science, to supplement the belief that a woman can’t get pregnant from rape unless she secretly enjoyed it. A snippet; follow the link for the rest:

  • Female hormones turn off barbecues and cause steering wheels to spin out of control.
  • Heart disease is what happens when a man’s body punishes him for eating like a girl.
  • If a woman has big breasts, that means she likes you.

Walk your dog, politely.

A jury trial began today for a Richmond man facing murder charges in the fatal shooting of two brothers in a dispute over dog feces left in front of a Manchester apartment.

Cutting the Cord 2

Steve Wiegand explains why his familty decided to ditch their cable telly vision.

These differences centered on Comcast insisting that in return for more money every month, it would provide us with less product. For approximately $100 a month, we had a choice of entertainment venues that included a “travel” channel in which various people travel around for no apparent reason other than to eat fried insects; a food channel in which people who look suspiciously like the people on the travel channel share recipes for fried insects; and 135 channels imploring us to buy sequined luggage sets or faux topaz bowling balls.

Republican Science Is a Wonderful Thing 3

Continuing the Republican practice of saying whatever sounds good at the moment, Republican candidate Todd Akin claimed this weekend that women (I’m paraphrasing here) can’t get pregnant from rape unless they enjoyed it.

(Honestly, folks, you can’t make this stuff up–unless you are a Republican. Then anything goes.)

To foster understanding of how this biological process works, ABL has helpfully posted a diagram.

Lies and Lying Liars 0

E. J. Dionne compares the Democratic and Republican positions on Medicare. A snippet:

Those who want a searching discussion of the need – and it is a need – to cut the cost of health care do their cause no good by evoking a false equivalence. There is a difference between Obama saying that Romney and Ryan want to alter Medicare fundamentally, which is true, and the GOP saying that Obama wants to undercut Medicare, which is not.

How misleading is the Romney argument? The liberal blogger Steve Benen summarized the GOP’s strange logic perfectly: “that Barack Obama is a left-wing socialist who wants government-run socialized medicine and that Barack Obama is a far-right brute who wants to undermine government-run socialized medicine,” i.e., Medicare. It doesn’t add up, does it?

In Wingnut World, stuff doesn’t have to add up. It just has to sound good today.

Then something else can sound good tomorrow.

Settle sporting arguments with politeness.

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that took place at Vince’s Sport Center in Newark Friday afternoon.

The incident happened just before 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Police say three people were shot following an altercation between a group of 8 men between the ages of 18 and 22-years-old, and a couple in the parking lot of the sports center on Gender Road.

I used to take First Son to this place to practice batting for Little League Lo! these many years ago.

It’s Electric 0

Lisa Scottolini tells about her devotion to her electronic face washer.

So I was primed for the ads I began to see for an electronic face washer. I snapped one up as soon as it became available, even though it wasn’t cheap.

Why?

Because I can’t be expected to wash my face all by myself.

That would be free, easy, and normal.

Also I read that the electronic face washer exfoliates your skin, and as all women know, exfoliate is the magic word.

Somewhere, Billy Mays is smiling.
