Bob Cesca sums it up:

That’s the big Romney mistake — and a mistake that most (if not all) Republicans make. They confuse obnoxious loudness with foreign policy expertise.

The Toro Incident: Giving Thanks 0

I am familiar with Shenango Township. It’s between Pittsburgh and Erie and is extremely rural and hilly. It would not be unusual for persons to turn their lawnmowers around in the road.

The assault came after the teenager–who was cutting grass in front of his family’s home–drove a riding mower “on the road, apparently into the path of” McCosby’s oncoming vehicle, cops reported. After exiting his car, McCosby approached the boy and “knocked the juvenile off the lawn mower and assaulted him in the front yard of the residence,” investigators alleged.

In announcing McCosby’s arrest, cops noted that, “After the assault, and prior to fleeing the scene, McCosby got onto his knee in what appeared to be a prayer. Witnesses described it as a ‘Tebow’.”

Now, had he been packing heat . . . .

Update from the Foreclosure-Based Economy 0

Process servers are nearing full employment in Florida (emphasis added).

Foreclosures continue to bruise Tampa Bay’s limping housing market, with foreclosure starts, auctions and repossessions last month growing 25 percent over August 2011.

Tampa Bay saw more than 2,000 foreclosure starts, nearly 300 more than the previous August, new data from RealtyTrac shows. Nearly 1,000 Tampa Bay homes were repossessed, twice as many as August 2011.

(snip)

But real-estate agents see the continued foreclosures as a stabilizing force for the housing market, clearing the logjam of distressed homes and opening them up to sale.

It’s certainly a stabilizing force for real estate agent commissions.

Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 0

Up a bit, but basically in the same range. Note that two-thirds of the rise was attributed to Hurricane Isaac (emphasis added):

Jobless claims increased 15,000 in the week ended Sept. 8, the biggest gain in almost two months, to 382,000, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median forecast of 50 economists surveyed by Bloomberg called for 370,000 claims. Tropical Storm Isaac resulted in about 9,000 applications for benefits, the agency said.

(snip)

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure than the weekly figures, climbed to 375,000 last week, the highest in almost two months, from 371,750.

Helen Philpot assesses the political conventions. I know it’s old news, way back from last week, but the whole post is a riot. Here’s a snippet:

Maybe it’s just me Margaret, but the Republicans have a real problem. Eventually a nun is going to show up and remind them that Jesus actually likes poor people. And I’ll be damned if the Democrats didn’t know that as well.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Quite by happenstance, I live near a golf course (I don’t golf–I point and laugh).

I have neighbors whose windows have been broken by errant shots. Several of my neighbors have, with full approval of the condo association, mounted thick sheets of plexiglass over particularly vulnerable windows.

Usually, the golfers just walk on by, but, in several cases, showing the integrity for which their scorecards are renowned, they have promised to pay for fixing the windows, then followed up by giving false names and addresses and, in one case, a fraudulent check.

Consquently, it is essential to show courtesy on the links.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of shooting and wounding a golfer after an errant ball broke a window at his home.
