“Don’t Go There” 0

From the website:

Meet Matthew Fogg, a former U.S. Marshal whose??? exploits led him to be nicknamed “Batman.” When he noticed that all of his team’s drug raids were in black areas, he suggested doing the same in the suburbs. His boss didn’t shine to that idea.

The Candidates Debate 0

Daniel Ruth wonders where all the Miss Grundys have come from, counseling that fools should not be called out for their follies. A nugget (emphasis added):

In recent days some people have accused Joe Biden of being impolite to Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan during their debate last week simply because the vice president offered up a few snickers and suggested his opponent was full of “malarkey” — more or less.

Truth should be a defense, but suddenly the body politic and members of the chin-rubbing classes have become Miss Manners, decrying the lack of civility and rudeness creeping into the political discourse.

Show the Flag, Politely 0

I have a low opinion of folks who put the stars and bars on their vehicles.

They know what they are saying and so does everyone else, and it has nothing to do with a civlized reverence for ancestors.

Case in point.

For Every Effect, There Is a Cause. 0

When I worked for the railroad, I was surrounded by safety rules.

There was a rule of the day, there was a Safety Training Department, and there were rule books for every craft and class of employee. Safety was drummed into us day after to day.

The rule book for office employees was over 20 pages long. Among others, it included a rule that, when walking and carrying a hot beverage, the hot beverage should be carried well away from one’s body.

Seems silly, doesn’t it? Except that every safety rule represented an accident, an injury, or a death.

The same goes for government regulations.

Return of Beyond the Palin, Dressed as Lyin’ Ryan 0

Helen Philpot outlines the similarites:

Now I am sure comparing Paul Ryan to Sarah Palin is a stretch for some but when you are as old as Margaret and me you see these things a little more clearly. Nothing is more apparent to an older person than a younger person blinded by their own youth. With age comes wisdom. If you doubt me, just wait.

Four years ago, Palin debated Biden and painted the world in black and white – oil and snow. This time Ryan painted it in red and black – debits and credits. Everything gets all summed up in rows and columns where nothing matters but the bottom line. Life has yet to throw him any problem that can’t be solved with a calculator.

Enemies List 0

It seems to have become accepted in the Village that Iran is a threat to the United States. Just listen to the beginning of the video below.

I understand that the government of Iran is not friendly to the United states (and vicey versey), but I do have a question:

Just how is Iran a “threat”?*

As near as I can figure, it’s a threat because people say it’s a threat and because they don’t like President Ineedashaveabad’s manners.

2016 Wingnut Way 0

To counterbalance them wingnut predictions of the future if President Obama wins the election, Reg Henry offers his vision of a future under Mitt the Flip. A nugget:

On a more familial note, Congress will pass and the president will sign the Wholesome Intimacy Act, which will mandate that married couples adopt the missionary position (as you know, this involves knocking on the bedroom door and handing religious tracts to a potential convert of the opposite sex).

Slurred Speech 0

Mark Sanford should have stuck to hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Afterthought:

In an environment tolerant of bigotry, ethnic and racial slurs become so ingrained that the persons uttering them don’t realize that that they are doing so.

That’s why they get taken aback when someone calls them on it, leading to responses such as “You’re being too sensitive,” “I was just making a joke,” or “No racism/sexism/etc was intended.”

They don’t notice it just as we don’t notice the nitrogen in the air we breathe, but, by God, it’s there.
