Dryin’ Ryan 3
And in line with the previous post . . . .

Excerpt:
Do you know how hard it is to make volunteering at a homeless shelter look like a negative thing?
Abnormal Psych 0
Does this remind you of any political candidates or parties whose names begin with “R”?

I have a new podcast up at HPR (and still another that I recorded yesterday and will edit today).
This one concerns KeepassX, a free and open source cross-platform password vault that works on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and is compatible with an keepassdroid for Android. I resisted password vaults for years until I was introduced to KeepassX; its cross-platform operation and versatility have converted me.
If you have a number of important passwords to manage (I just counted–I have over 40 that must be secure and therefore unique and that I use regularly), check it out.

The Candidates Debate 0
Daniel Ruth wonders where all the Miss Grundys have come from, counseling that fools should not be called out for their follies. A nugget (emphasis added):
Truth should be a defense, but suddenly the body politic and members of the chin-rubbing classes have become Miss Manners, decrying the lack of civility and rudeness creeping into the political discourse.
Show the Flag, Politely 0
I have a low opinion of folks who put the stars and bars on their vehicles.
They know what they are saying and so does everyone else, and it has nothing to do with a civlized reverence for ancestors.
For Every Effect, There Is a Cause. 0
When I worked for the railroad, I was surrounded by safety rules.
There was a rule of the day, there was a Safety Training Department, and there were rule books for every craft and class of employee. Safety was drummed into us day after to day.
The rule book for office employees was over 20 pages long. Among others, it included a rule that, when walking and carrying a hot beverage, the hot beverage should be carried well away from one’s body.
Seems silly, doesn’t it? Except that every safety rule represented an accident, an injury, or a death.
The same goes for government regulations.
Return of Beyond the Palin, Dressed as Lyin’ Ryan 0
Helen Philpot outlines the similarites:
Four years ago, Palin debated Biden and painted the world in black and white – oil and snow. This time Ryan painted it in red and black – debits and credits. Everything gets all summed up in rows and columns where nothing matters but the bottom line. Life has yet to throw him any problem that can’t be solved with a calculator.

Protect your dwelling, politely.
The man telephoned authorities this morning to report that he had accidentally shot his girlfriend, police said.
