Words Fail Me 0

From time to time, I consider going into a rant about how the media tends to portray Southerners as bumpkins, idiots, and morons.

Something always happens to dissuade me–usually some Southerner acting like an idiotic moronic bumpkin:

A Republican candidate for Congress says his Facebook post featuring a photo of his gun and a “Welcome to Tennessee” message for Barack Obama was in no way meant as a threat to the president.

“Good Lord, no,” Brad Staats told The Tennessean in a telephone interview on Monday. “Absolutely not. I’m not one of those that would ever threaten the president. He’s probably got enough of his own stuff to worry about without me.”

I think I can understand Mr. Staats’s puzzlement as to why cyber-brandishing a gun and calling out the President should be worthy of note. I can hear the wheels grinding slowly in his head. I hazard that they sound somewhat like this:

He’s just one of them darkies. And an uppity one at that.

What’s the big deal?

Pah!

The Voter Fraud Fraud 0

More indications that Republicans are so hyped about voter fraud because it’s what they do:

Aggressive recruitment efforts in one of California’s most hotly contested voting districts has created a surge of newly minted Republicans like Marleny Reyes. Except she had no intention of joining the GOP.

The Moreno Valley College student is among scores of voters in Riverside County who say they were duped.

Formal complaints filed with the state by at least 133 residents of a state Senate district there say they were added to GOP rolls without their knowledge, calling into question the party’s boast that Republican membership has rocketed 23% in the battleground area.

Facebook Frolics, Creepy Stalker Dept. 0

The San Jose Mercury-News has a long story about Facebook’s latest attempt to get into your pants, or at least into the dressing room while you are trying them on:

The giant social network said it’s working with a market analytics firm, Datalogix, to measure how often users see a product advertised on Facebook and then purchase that product later in a retail store. Datalogix says it uses information from customer loyalty programs and other sources to track purchases by more than 100 million households at more than 1,200 retailers in the offline, brick-and-mortar world.

If you poke, friend, like, or tag anything or anyone on the Faceborg, read it to find out just zucked you are.

The Entitlement Society 0

Steven Pearlstein explores the mysterious world of the Entitled. A nugget:

I am a private-equity fund manager.

(snip)

I am entitled to a healthy and well-educated workforce, a modern and efficient transportation system and protection for my person and property, just as I am entitled to demonize the government workers who provide them.

I am entitled to complain bitterly about taxes that are always too high, even when they are at record lows.

Read the rest. It’s quite a long list.

Republican Jesus 0

Shamelessly stolen from kavips:

Matthew 6:6: And Jesus said unto his disciples, “Jam God’s will down people’s throats. Pray openly and loudly and judge all those who do not pray openly and loudly as non believers.”

John 3:20: Jesus looked upon the crowd and proclaimed, “Oral contraceptives are murder. If a woman is truly raped, her body will shut that down. Rape the children but remember to ask God for forgiveness, because only then will you enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Mark 12:17 Then Jesus said unto them, “Overthrow Caesar. Refuse to pay your taxes or proclaim them wrong. Run for office and take over your nation’s rulers and replace man’s law with God’s law. It is God’s will that you lie and cheat to achieve these goals.

Two Weeks before the Mast 0

In Sunday’s local rag, Carl Fincke describes his experience sailing on a container ship as a paying passenger from Philadelphia to Panama.

A luxury cruise ship it wasn’t, but he had a great time.

It’s a good read.
