This cicada green fruit beetle* landed on the wiper arm at a stop light, snuggled down between the wiper arm and the wiper, and hitched a two-mile ride.

    That is a green fruit beetle, my friend. You don’t see a lot of them.

    We looked up pictures of cicadas it appeared to be a match.

    They buzz around for a few days in the latter part of summer, having just emerged from the ground, presumably mate and the next generation is planted back in the earth. They are like a really big gem-colored June beetle. One in the yard in August always made me think the ecology was right and we’d worn out the previous owner’s fetish for spraying.
