“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Settle domestic differences politely.

“We believe the person who committed the murder-suicide, the husband, made the call prior to shooting himself,” said Bill Colarulo, Radnor Township Police.

Supt. Colarulo says they received a 911 call after 2:00 p.m. Police believe the husband called for help after allegedly shooting his wife.

Have you noticed that it is almost always the husband who does the murder and then commits suicide?

Must be a testosterone thing.

The Weather Channel asked its viewers Saturday to urge Congress to intervene in its business dispute with DirecTV, arguing that it can harm public safety if the satellite system pulls the network off the air for nearly 20 million viewers.

“We Know Where You Are” 0

A Virginia Beach company is working on a GPS tracker that can be shot at and stuck to a car fleeing the police from a gun mounted behind the grill of the police cruiser. The idea is to render high-speed chases superfluous.

Respess, who led instruction for police vehicle pursuits, now works for StarChase, a Virginia Beach company that wants to put the brakes on high-speed, high-adrenaline pursuits.

The StarChase system fires a GPS “bullet” that sticks to a suspect’s vehicle and transmits its location. Respess shows clients how the system works in a demonstration vehicle.

The story says that the prototype is the size of a soup can and accurate up to two car-lengths away, which doesn’t seem like much, but it’s just a start.

The Rich Are Different from You and Me 0

As Matthew Hutson points out, you just have to ask them.

But say you’re in that top 0.01 percent — or even the top 50 percent. Would you want to admit happenstance as a benefactor? Wouldn’t you rather believe that you earned your wealth, that you truly deserve it? Wouldn’t you like to think that any resources you inherited are rightfully yours, as the descendant of fundamentally exceptional people?

Of course you would. New research indicates that in order to justify your lifestyle, you might even adjust your ideas about the power of genes. The lower classes are not merely unfortunate, according to the upper classes; they are genetically inferior.

Integrity Is Essential to a Financial System 0

Its absence is noted.

Together with SunTrust loan officer Victor Miguel Vidal, 48, of Miami, the defendants are accused of using fraudulent loan applications to get construction mortgages valued at almost $50 million between 2003 and 2008. The loans were made by Bank of America, Wachovia, SunTrust and Regions Bank. Most of the loans have been foreclosed by the banks.

It is not comforting to know that banks with which I have had dealings (no, I will not say which ones) allowed themselves to be suckered like rubes at a carny.

Play with your toys, politely.

Police spokeswoman Julie Parker says there was a group of five people at the home hanging out and playing with the gun when it went off. She says Pratt and the person who fired the gun were visiting the home and the person who fired is cooperating with police.

“Playing with” a gun does not make it into a toy gun.
