Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 0

Still not bad.

Applications for U.S. unemployment benefits remained below 300,000 for a 14th straight week, a sign of labor market strength that will help fuel U.S. growth.

Jobless claims rose by 2,000 to 279,000 in the week ended June 6, a Labor Department report showed Thursday in Washington.

(snip)

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure than the weekly numbers, climbed to 278,750 last week, from 275,000.The number of people continuing to receive jobless benefits rose by 61,000 to 2.27 million in the week ended May 30.

Stray Thought 2

Every week, the persons who do the yard work at this here condo spend large amounts of time blowing dirt and leaves around with leaf blowers.

They don’t gather them up, they don’t compost them, they don’t pile them up; they just blow them around, all the while using gasoline and making noise.

Leaf blowers are evil.

Worse than evil, they are pointless.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Politeness must start at a young age.

Five children were inside the house in the 4300 block of Egyptian Cove when the gun went off just before 7 p.m.

The boy’s father told deputies he was outside working in the yard when he heard a gun go off. He ran into the house and called 911 as soon as he saw his injured son.

“Apparently, a 4-year-old had found a gun in the house and picked it up and inadvertently shot himself. He has since died,” SCSO spokesman Chip Washington said.

Be polite to those who help you at the politeness place.

It all started when a customer entered the building (a firearms emporium–ed.) with a loaded gun.

“After the customer handed the gun over to store employees, the gun discharged,” says Sergeant Beard of the Abilene Police Department.

It only fired once, hitting one employee through the hand and the other in the abdomen.

“The customer feels absolutely terrible about it,” says Cowen.

Franklin Graham cancels account at Wells-Fargo because it runs an ad with a same-sex couple, moves to BB&T, which sponsored a Miami Beach Gay Pride fundraiser. Where will he go next?

I reckon that life becomes complicated when you base your decision-making on hating persons for being.

Afterthought:

I have an account at Wells-Fargo. It didn’t start out at Wells-Fargo, but mergers and acquisitions made it that way.

I’ve been thinking maybe I should close it, because Wells-Fargo is a wannabe Bank of America, but moving your banking is a complex task and I’ve been avoiding the issue.

After this, maybe I’ll just keep it in memory of Franklin Graham.

Hilary Clinton and the Voter Fraud Fraud 0

Dick Polman discusses Hilary Clinton’s calling out that Republican Lie. A snippet (emphasis added):

Then, in a speech last Thursday, she added another key color to her palette: Voting rights reform. She proposed that all Americans be automatically registered to vote when they turn 18, and that all states offer at least 20 days of early voting. And she denounced the GOP’s ongoing voter-suppression campaign: “What is happening is a sweeping effort to disempower and disenfranchise people of color, poor people and young people, from one end of the country to the other.”

She also named names: Rick Perry, Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Jeb Bush (she could easily have added John Kasich), all of whom, in their gubernatorial tenures, have curbed access to the ballot. She said of Republicans, “What part of democracy are they afraid of?”

As my two or three regular readers know, I’m not a big Clinton fan, but I have to commend her for facing this particular lie squarely.

Politeness takes practice.

In an online dispatch, troopers wrote they received a report that Samson Mullenax was injured by a gun at a gravel pit off Brown Mountain Road, in Ketchikan.

Trooper spokesperson Megan Peters said the pit is often used as a shooting range, and at the time Mullenax was shot he was with about six people who had gone to the area to shoot.

“The weapon was being handled by a person in the group and it discharged,”Peters said.
