Self-politeness is the politest kind.

Martin Murray, 26, of 25 Pine St., suffered entry and exit wounds to his upper thigh on his left leg, according to police. He was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Emergency crews responded to 25 Pine St. around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Murray, who said he had shot himself in the leg with a .22-caliber revolver. Police said Murray was outside on his porch when they arrived, and he told them the incident was accidental.

Politeness must be inculcated from the early years.

Police in central Ohio say a 3-year-old girl was shot and critically hurt when a 4-year-old girl apparently picked up and discharged a gun that had been left within her reach.

WCMH-TV (http://bit.ly/1IHSRIt ) in Columbus reports the younger child was struck in the neck when the gun discharged Tuesday morning in a neighborhood just west of downtown.

Another day of personal protection in NRA Paradise.

Impunity and the Regency 0

The Regent has one strike left.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has turned down former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s request for a rehearing on his 11 corruption convictions.

A three-judge panel of the Richmond-based appeals court upheld the convictions on July 10, holding in part that McDonnell: “received a fair trial and was duly convicted by a jury of his fellow Virginians.

Next stop: Washington and the big stage of the Supreme Court.

Afterthought:

Maybe he should have worn a badge.

Politeness is a moving experience.

A child died Monday night in Boyd County after police said she accidentally shot herself.

According to the girl’s brother, the shooting happened while the family was moving into their home and unpacking their belongings.

At the San Jose Mercury-News, William Endicott contemplates the culture warriors and is not impressed.

. . . people who want to continue the culture war remind me of the handful of Japanese soldiers who emerged from jungles years after the end of World War II, unaware that the war was long since over.
