Just Good, Clean Fun 0

In an effort to curb the incendiary desires that might arise while ushering in a fourth Stanley Cup title, the City of Pittsburgh has opted to seize residents’ porch furniture.

Seriously.

Starting on Wednesday, city crews began taking couches, mattresses and other furniture from residents’ porches in hopes of removing “fuel” for post-game fires.

In the story, cited at Above the Law, the author points out that, among other things, this would seem to be an unlawful taking in violation of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution of the United Sates.

Elizabeth Warren plays Trump.

I ordered my Hillary Clinton bumper sticker last night because consider the alternative.

I hope to be the first on my block to have one. (Actually, who am I kidding? I will almost certainly be the first on my block to have one.)

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

The hunt for politeness proceeds apace.

A 13-year-old boy remained in critical condition Wednesday after a friend accidentally shot him in the back Tuesday, according to Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth.

Matthew Fluty and his friend Dale Long, 15, were preparing to go bird hunting about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at young Fluty’s house in Berlin Township when Dale discharged a pump-action shotgun he was trying to clear. The shot struck the Fluty youth in the back, Sheriff Sigsworth said.

What the hell was he doing not making sure the gun was pointed at the ground?

Guns and stupid–a magic combination.

The results are in!

Pennsylvania voters, when asked to choose the most qualified candidate to hold the nation’s highest office, preferred the Phillies’ mascot over the presumed Republican nominee, Donald Trump.

I have not discussed Bernie Bros much here.

I don’t need to.

They are their own worst advertisement.

Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 0

Slightly better.

Applications to collect unemployment insurance dropped by 4,000 to 264,000 in the period ended June 4, Labor Department data showed on Thursday.

(snip)

The four-week moving average, a less volatile measure than the weekly claims numbers, decreased to 269,500 last week from 277,000.

Filings have been below 300,000 for 66 consecutive weeks — the longest stretch since 1973 and a level economists say is typically consistent with a healthy labor market.

The number of people continuing to receive jobless benefits dropped 77,000 in the week ended May 28. The unemployment rate among people eligible for benefits decreased to a record-low 1.5 percent. These data are reported with a one-week lag.
