Down at the Farm 0
I looked at the site a few minutes ago (about 22:20) and got a message that “one or more of the database tables is not available” and to “repair them now.”
So I logged into my hosting provider, went to my VPS, opened cPanel, and ran a check, a repair, and an optimize; then, just for good measure, I exported a *.sql backup to my local computer (there is no such thing as too many backups).
It’s working again, and I have a new valid backup.
Designed to Fail? 0
Noz has a theory that the proposed Republican “they laughingly call it a health care” bill is designed to fail.
I’m not sure I buy it.
Applying Occam’s Razor, I suspect that this is the more likely backstory.
Facebook Frolics 0
Case dismissed.
Modamani wanted the US social media giant, represented by Facebook Ireland Limited, to stop the spread of such defamatory fake news, which have been shared countless times.
He was represented by German lawyer Chan-jo Jun, who has previously launched legal action against Facebook, demanding it stop the spread of racist hate speech and other content illegal under German law.
No Place To Hide 0
It’s probably not a good idea to fly blindly into a cloud just because you can.

Speaking of Alternative Facts 0
Leonard Pitts, Jr., shreds Ben Carson’s referring to America’s African chattel slaves as “immigrants.” A nugget:
But the slaves were no more “immigrants” than rape is making love.

Polling Piece 0
Werner Herzog’s Bear muses on a Quinnipiac poll showing Donald Trump’s continuing popularity amongst Republicans. A snippet:
If all you hear is alternate facts, you soon forget about the existence of factual facts.

Brian Greenspun spins a tale.
“Nixonian” 0
By the way, I submit that the Watergate-era cliche, “the cover-up is worse than the crime,” is inaccurate. I think an accurate phrasing would be “the cover-up is more politically damaging than the crime.”
Video ia Raw Story.
Twits on Twitter 0
And yet more twits.
You do realize, natch, that this behavior is somewhat outside of the norm.
“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0
Be polite to your friends.
Anyone who knows how to handle firearms knows that there are only two types of discharges: “intentional” and “negligent.” “Accidental” is not an option.

Update:
Late yesterday, after I wrote this (yes, I do write stuff in advance), the Republicans opened the box. It’s every bit as horrible as imagined.
