Yet more polite play.

A 10-year-old boy fatally shot his 6-year-old brother in the head Wednesday morning with their mother’s handgun while they were alone inside their mobile home in West Mifflin, Allegheny County Police said.

Had the other boy been armed, no doubt this would not have happened.

Afterthought:

You probably tire of these posts. Me, I tire of the sacrifice of lives on the altar of profits for munitions makers.

Unhappy Cat (Updated) 0

The cat is on a liquid diet until a vet’s appointment tomorrow morning. She is not happy, so she is trying to affection me into giving her some food. Heaven forbid she lose an ounce, but, really, now, cats aren’t supposed to have what she has–cleavage.

I just hope she doesn’t resort to violence before we get her into her carrier. After all, she’s packing knives.

(Yeah, I know. Just what the internet needs. Another cat picture.)

Addendum:

Diagnosis: Inflammatory bowel syndrome. because the size of the bowel walls are in excess of three cm.

Rx: Change of diet to prescription diet.

Comment: Trust me, you do not want a cat, or anything or anyone else, with inflammatory bowel syndrome. It is not pretty.

Great Moments in Spell Check 0

From today’s local rag:

Copy of print newspaper showing "mechanizations" improperly used for "machinations."

It’s also in the online version as I write this:

That was true under President George W. Bush, who used a national emergency to throw a veil of secrecy over his administration’s mechanizations.

What kind of machinations, one wonders, will be required to correct this error.

(By the by, the local rag has been rolling out some excellent editorials lately. The Editorial Board clearly finds the antics of the current federal administration to be concerning.)

Play politely.

Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Stoddard said three brothers, ages 10, 12 and 14, were playing a game of “cops and robbers” with rifles that they believed were not loaded.

At one point, the 10-year-old boy pointed a rifle at his 14-year-old brother and pulled the trigger, the sheriff’s office said. The firearm had the magazine removed, but the boy didn’t know a round was in the chamber. The firearm discharged and struck the 14-year-old in the chest.

Rex Tillersons saying,

Given Donald Trump’s disdain for diplomacy, Tracey Rubin sees more blood in the sand (and the forests, and the cities, and the seas).

“If you don’t fund the State Department fully, then I need to buy more ammunition,” said the general, who was then head of U.S. Central Command. Mattis recognized that skilled diplomacy is required to prevent wars or cement military victories.

President Donald Trump not only wants to slash the State Department’s budget by a third but clearly considers the department unnecessary. His vision of foreign policy revolves around military strikes and arranging mythical “big deals.”

Meantime, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson conducts diplomacy as if he were still the god-head of Exxon Mobil, consulting only a few aides while gutting the department. Most key posts and many crucial ambassadorships remain vacant.

Afterthought:

Big deals.

Yeah.

Right.

Politeness can get you out of a jam.

The shooting happened Saturday evening in the parking lot of O’Reilly Auto Parts on East North Street. Police say two men were sitting in a pickup with the gun.

The driver told officers that he had been trying to clear a jam in his loaded revolver when he shot himself in the leg. The bullet went clear through him, continuing on its path to strike the man in the passenger seat – also in the leg.

“No one is saying you can’t go and write a review,” (plaintiff’s attorney Dave–ed.) Wishnew said. “Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence. Things you put on the internet to attack a business have real-world consequences and that really resonated with the jury. You can’t go and burn someone’s house down and claim free speech.”
