Yet another gun with a trigger finger of its own:

A man suspected of carrying a gun that went off Sunday afternoon at a mall in Orange County is now in police custody (the mope turned himself in–ed.).

(snip)

Investigators say a bullet ricocheted when a gun was discharged into the floor in front of an American Eagle store at the Galleria at Crystal Run mall in Middletown on Sunday.

Investigators say a 49-year-old Goshen woman and her 12-year-old son were hit in the legs. Police said it was unclear if the shooting was intentional or an accident.

Swan song.

The beloved Sunriver trumpeter swan ‘Chuck’ was killed Thanksgiving Day.

Sunriver Police Chief Marc Mills says shooting swans is illegal because they are not considered game birds in Oregon. He also says the incident took place in an area where hunting is not allowed. “We do not believe that it was an accident. It does appear to be a very direct and specific shot, to and or at ‘Chuck,’ that caused his injury. I think it was just cruel, and intentional, and we’re certainly hoping that we can come to some kind of conclusion in the near future.”

Behind the Hoopla 0

Foon Rhee is concerned that Donald Trump’s daily trollish behavior is distracting the public and the media from the concrete effects he is having on government and governance. Here’s a bit:

While Trump’s setbacks on major legislation in Congress – health care and, maybe soon, tax cuts – get a lot of attention, he is quietly changing policy and regulations through his cabinet secretaries and other appointees. At the moment, he’s in a court battle to put his own director in charge so he can remake the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, one of the few reforms after the Wall Street meltdown to help working Americans.

And while Trump railed against Obama’s executive orders during the campaign, he has issued nearly twice as many so far and is on the second fastest pace of any president in the last 50 years, behind only Dwight Eisenhower.
