Leonard Pitts, Jr., notes the death of facts. A snippet:

It’s not just Ken who makes me doubt (follow the link for the story of Ken–ed.). It’s also Fox “News” and talk radio. It’s Donald Trump’s lies, his war on journalism and people’s tolerance for both. And it’s studies dating to the 1970s, when researchers at Stanford first documented a counterintuitive phenomenon. Namely, that people tend not to change their minds when facts prove them wrong. Instead, they double down on the false belief.

Tales of the Trumpling: Snapshots of Trickle-Down Trumpery 0

From the Raleigh News and Observer (more at the link):

A candidate for Raleigh City Council said Friday that someone vandalized her campaign sign overnight by spray-painting the word “Trump” and a racial slur across it.

Zainab Baloch, who is Muslim, is one of seven candidates running for two at-large seats on the council. Early voting is ongoing and Election Day is Tuesday.

Her campaign posted a video on her Facebook page Friday morning showing the sign, located at 5520 Louisburg Road in northeast Raleigh.

The words “sand n—–” are painted across a photo of Baloch’s face.

Race at the Bottom 0

In a nation which was founded on theft of labor, that is, chattel slavery, and which invented racism to justify that theft of labor, it should not surprise that almost every issue ultimately winds its way back to racism and bigotry.

Politeness can be child’s play.

On Friday, authorities said Abel Rincon, 8, accidentally fatally shot himself when he reached for a rifle and pulled it toward him, causing it to fire and hitting him in the chest. Detectives said the rifle was older and did not have a trigger guard which may have contributed to the trigger being pulled by accident.

Setting an Example of Sportsmanship 0

Closter’s school business administrator is banned from a youth flag football league after he allegedly put a 16-year-old coach into a chokehold this past weekend, according to police.

Peter Iappelli, 50, of Closter (New Jersey–ed.) approached the teenage coach during a peewee game at Westwood Middle School on Saturday morning, Detective Warren Morrell said. Iappelli grabbed the boy in a bear hug that turned into a chokehold, Morrell said.

According to my local rag, the assault was prompted by Iapelli’s son being rotated out of the position of quarterback.

He has been banned from the league.

Peewee football is first- and second graders, folks.

Politeness plays “Catch Me If You Can.”

Berwick police say 28-year-old Kenneth Morris reached through the car’s rear driver’s side door to comfort his son when the .357-caliber gun fell from Morris’ shoulder holster. When Morris tried to grab the falling weapon, he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting himself in the stomach.

In a related item, Josh Marshall ponders the gun nut strategy to normalize gunnuttery. Follow the link, then consider whether that strategy has any bearing on this child’s father’s gunnuttery rendering the child fatherless.

There are seasons in every country when noise and impudence pass current for worth; and in popular commotions especially, the clamors of interested and factious men are often mistaken for patriotism.
