Another educational day in NRA Paradise . . . . .

A former student opened fire at a Florida high school Wednesday, killing “numerous” people, sending students running out into the streets and SWAT team members swarming in before authorities took him into custody about a mile away.

CNN is reporting at least 17 people are dead, citing law enforcement officials.

Remember, in Republican World, There Is No Such Thing as the “Common Good.” 0

Ben Sprage reveals the con hidden (not very skillfully) in Donald Trump’s “infrastructure” plan:

But make no mistake about it: Trump’s ultimate goal is to shift the cost of infrastructure improvements directly to ordinary Americans through their property taxes and state income taxes. Further gaps will likely be paid for by all of us through increased road tolls and additional surcharges when traveling by plane, rail or boat. Fewer projects likely will take place, and the ones that do will cost more for ordinary citizens, who already pay a good deal in taxes each year.

Politeness takes practice.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim and two other people, a man and a woman, had unloaded their guns and were “practicing their draw.” One person reloaded a gun and it went off, striking the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.

Tales of the Trumpling: Snapshots of Trickle-Down Trumpery 0

Trumpling the students:

Black students at an Ypsilanti, Michigan middle school have feared for their safety since being sent a slur-laden email from a classmate that threatened violence and referenced President Donald Trump.

(snip)

The email was opened by two of the six intended recipients, MLive reported, who then alerted school authorities. The other four emails were deleted from the students’ inboxes before they could be opened.

“U need ta [sic] get your n**ger loving as* out of here and all this black lives matter bullsh*t,” the email read. The sender went on use the slur multiple times when writing that African Americans should “leave this country.”

“One day your kids will get what they deserve being on this land,” the email continued. “White lives matter….go Trump!!!!”

The Snaring Economy 0

At the San Francisco Chronicle, Chirag Asaravala wonders whether there is dark side to the “there’s an app for that” model of employment. A snippet:

American venture capitalists and their host of cheerleaders, from investors to media, to the very startups themselves, beat a steady drum of how all such endeavors are a healthy sign of entrepreneurial innovation. They convince us that this is technology at its finest and our young college graduates are being hired to engineer “global solutions” — that this type of “disruption” is good.

(snip)

They are, in fact, the signs of emerging oppression and growing social stratification. These app-based services are virtual canaries in the coal mine of a country that is foundering and struggling to make meaningful work for its young people.
