The wheel fell off the tractor.

In other words, there are hardware issues down on the farm. Blogging will be sporadic until they are remedied.

Update:

The most excellent tech support at my ISP determined that my cable modem died. I’ve had it for a number of years, and, as my old auto repairman used to say, it doesn’t owe me a dime.

I have my beefs with my ISP, but they are mostly policy-related. Their tech support is competent and capable.

In the meantime, I’ve been using my cell phone’s hotspot capability, and it has worked quite nicely; indeed, it has exceeded my fears expectations. It’s not as fast as cable, but it’s faster than DSL.

I won’t mention my carrier’s name, but I’ve used it since it was called Voicestream, and I have no intention of changing, because, with it, I get what I pay for.

Update De-Dum-Dum:

It turned that it was the router, not the cable modem, that was kaput. I got a new router, a Netgear, today, and configured it up and it’s working quite nicely. I still need to tweak it a bit, but I am favorably impressed with the interface.

I never liked the Belkin anyway. I’m glad it’s kaput.

The tech from my ISP who identified the culprit was adept and competent, as well as pleasant to deal with.

Some sites that I link to may try to track you, but that's between you and them, not you and me.

I do collect statistics, but I use a simple stand-alone Wordpress plugin, not third-party services such as Google Analitics over which I have no control.

Finally, this is website is a hobby. It's a hobby in which I am deeply invested, about which I care deeply, and which has enabled me to learn a lot about computers and computing, but it is still ultimately an avocation, not a vocation; it is certainly not a money-making enterprise (unless you click the "Donate" button--go ahead, you can be the first!).
