One indicator that a TV show or movie is from the last century is that the characters find payphones whenever they need to make telephone calls.

“Err Power” 0

The San Francisco Chronicle’s John Gohlke finds a lesson in Donald’s foray into fiction in his Independence Day spiel.

Merely catching the president in factual and linguistic errors is easy and unrewarding work, but this was an exceptional case. At the zenith of his efforts to misappropriate the triumphs of America and its military for himself, he accidentally revealed his careless disregard for both.

Demonstrate courtesy whilst employing your automotive conveyance.

(Sheriff–ed.) Gonzalez said a family of four – a mom, dad and 3-year-old and one-year-old kids – were driving along when they got into a dispute with another driver. The two vehicles pulled into a gas station and both male drivers reportedly got out and exchanged words.

When the suspected shooter showed a firearm, the father got back in his vehicle and started to leave.

But the other man allegedly opened fire on the truck, setting off fireworks the family had just purchased.

No fatalities, but extensive injuries, resulted from this bout of politeness.

Never Never Never Land 0

Eugene Robinson offers a startling revelation for “Never Trumpers.”

Never-Trump Republicans and independents may be shocked to hear this, but the Democratic Party is likely to nominate a Democrat for president. That means they’re not going to nominate someone who thinks exactly like a Never-Trump Republican.

A Notion of Immigrants 0

At AL.com, Daniel Price reminds us that the United States, and before it the colonies, has always welcomed illegal immigrants of questionable provenance. Here’s how he introduces his topic:

I know a guy in Georgia who is descended from six generations of Irish that have all lived on the same piece of land since the early 1800s. The first to arrive in Georgia swam here, not from Ireland directly (although that story would be a perfectly Irish tale) but from the British ship he escaped by diving into the ocean at night when the guards were looking the other way. The lad was serving on a Royal Navy press gang, enlisted by force on the other side of the Atlantic. Three months of salt pork and stormy seas were enough. One Olympic feat later, he was an American.

Flagging Interests 0

Farron comments on the flap about Nike’s “Betsy Ross” flag shoes. (Yes, I know he said “Betty” instead of “Betsy.”)

Aside:

One of my pet peeves is persons who violate the U. S. Flag Code, particularly persons who wear U. S. flag-like clothing. You do not honor the flag by wrapping your greasy hair in a red, white, and blue bandanna, for Pete’s sake.

Party politely.

The woman was at a gathering with her friends on River Road when another person at the party brought out a shotgun sometime during the early morning hours Thursday, according to Chase. Someone fired off a shot from the shotgun and the blast hit the woman, according to Claremont Police Department’s Mark Chase.
