Demonstrate courtesy whilst employing your automotive conveyance.

(Sheriff–ed.) Gonzalez said a family of four – a mom, dad and 3-year-old and one-year-old kids – were driving along when they got into a dispute with another driver. The two vehicles pulled into a gas station and both male drivers reportedly got out and exchanged words.

When the suspected shooter showed a firearm, the father got back in his vehicle and started to leave.

But the other man allegedly opened fire on the truck, setting off fireworks the family had just purchased.

No fatalities, but extensive injuries, resulted from this bout of politeness.

Never Never Never Land 0

Eugene Robinson offers a startling revelation for “Never Trumpers.”

Never-Trump Republicans and independents may be shocked to hear this, but the Democratic Party is likely to nominate a Democrat for president. That means they’re not going to nominate someone who thinks exactly like a Never-Trump Republican.

A Notion of Immigrants 0

At AL.com, Daniel Price reminds us that the United States, and before it the colonies, has always welcomed illegal immigrants of questionable provenance. Here’s how he introduces his topic:

I know a guy in Georgia who is descended from six generations of Irish that have all lived on the same piece of land since the early 1800s. The first to arrive in Georgia swam here, not from Ireland directly (although that story would be a perfectly Irish tale) but from the British ship he escaped by diving into the ocean at night when the guards were looking the other way. The lad was serving on a Royal Navy press gang, enlisted by force on the other side of the Atlantic. Three months of salt pork and stormy seas were enough. One Olympic feat later, he was an American.

Flagging Interests 0

Farron comments on the flap about Nike’s “Betsy Ross” flag shoes. (Yes, I know he said “Betty” instead of “Betsy.”)

Aside:

One of my pet peeves is persons who violate the U. S. Flag Code, particularly persons who wear U. S. flag-like clothing. You do not honor the flag by wrapping your greasy hair in a red, white, and blue bandanna, for Pete’s sake.

Party politely.

The woman was at a gathering with her friends on River Road when another person at the party brought out a shotgun sometime during the early morning hours Thursday, according to Chase. Someone fired off a shot from the shotgun and the blast hit the woman, according to Claremont Police Department’s Mark Chase.

The Right To Shirk (aka, the Cowardice of Their Convictions) 0

At the Idaho State Journal, Mike Murphy comments on the stunt that Oregon (Oregone?) Republican senators pulled–fleeing the state capital while the legislature was in session to avoid voting on a bill they disliked. A snippet:

For the second time during the current legislative session, all 11 Republican senators walked out on the job and went into hiding. Their goal: To kill a bill that would cap carbon emissions, a bill fiercely opposed by industry lobbyists, including the Oregon Manufacturers and Commerce group.

Such a strategy is apparently some sort of new twist on democracy in which politicians promise during their election campaigns to represent the people’s wishes, then once in office do whatever they darn well please, or, as in this case, whatever non-renewable energy lobbyists coax them to do — voters be damned.

Borderline Disorder 0

At AL.com, Joyce Vance agrees that there is a crisis at the border. An excerpt:

The reality is that there is a mass crisis on the border. However, it is not caravans of criminals amassing in roving bands to overwhelm the border and harm us. It is this administration’s policy of separating families, closing borders to asylum seekers and refusing to process legitimate asylum requests. Immigration policy has been broken in this country for decades and there is plenty of blame to share. But these policies are new and unique to this administration and it has created a humanitarian crisis. Our government was not prepared to house or care for these people, even as it took them into custody. This administration is making people suffer to advance a political argument.

Brendan remarks on the dissatisfaction of those pundits and publicists who made their careers shilling for the Republican Party whilst ignoring what it was turning into now that what they labored for has come to pass.

My only quibble is that he left George Will, Bret Stephens, and David Brooks off his list.
