Twits on Twitter 0
Twits who celebrate cruelty.
Also, not on Twitter but on the campaign trail, Virginia’s Governor Trumpkin chimes in.
Afterthought:
I think that this is a quite logical result of Republicans’ amd right-wing media’s demonization of those who would dare to disagree with them.
But that’s just me.
Gutting Out the Vote 0
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gene Collier is not sanguine. Here’s a bit from his article, in which he defines “Trumpian Democracy”:
That’s essentially what the two masked men outside a Maricopa County ballot drop box were “thinking” Friday night as they sat with their tactical gear and what elections officials described as weaponry watching Arizona voters, um, vote.

An Odd Trio 0
So I’m listening to an episode of That Hammer Guy, a Mike Hammer radio show, at The Old Time Radio Theater (one of my favorite websites), and find that it was sponsored by Trix Cereal, Camel cigarettes, and Esquire Magazine.
Camels and Esquire I can understand, but Camels and Esquire and Trix?
I sense an inconsistency.
The Privatization Scam 0
Martin A. Davis, Jr., takes issue with Virginia Governor Trumpkin’s maligning the efficacy of Virginia public schools by misrepresenting the meaning of certain national test data. He points out that, despite the Governor’s spin, the numbers show that “Virginia is performing as well as most every other state in the union, and better than a significant number.”
It’s a cynical ploy based on the faulty belief that competition makes everything better.
Education is not a business. It is a public good. And public education in Virginia is doing quite well relative to other states.

Descent into the Maelstrom 0
Thom and Robert Draper discuss the Republican Party’s embrace of Trumpism.
This is an exceptional listen.
I think a strong argument can be made that the Republican Party is no longer interested in participating in governance in a democratic polity. They no longer tolerate differing opinions.
Rather, the Republican Party seeks dominion.
A Twit Owns Twitter 0
Yet another reason I’m glad I never leaped on the Twitter manure spreader.
The Rule of Flaw 0
At Above the Law, Liz Dye takes an in-depth look at Donald Trump’s attempts to use “executive privilege” to avoid accountability for his actions. A snippet; much more at the link:
And Now for a Musical Interlude 0
This is a relatively new genre of music called “lofi” (or maybe “Lo-Fi” or “Lofi”).
We first encountered it this week when we visited a local coffee shop for the first time; it was playing as background music, and we found it quite appealing. The proprietor told me, when I asked him what the music he was playing was called, that you can find lots of it on Youtube, so I did. When I searched for it, many of the links also referred to “hip-hop,” but it seems to me much more related to smooth jazz than to hip-hop.
I have been a jazz fan for many years, since I first stumbled upon Cannonball Adderley (and also a fan of jazz’s distant cousin, swing, as my two or three regular readers already know), though of course I was already aware of jazz, because how could you grow up in the Disunited States and not be? But Adderley made me a fan.
I can’t say that I’m knowledgeable about jazz. All I can say is that I like it, especially smooth jazz and blues.
Oh. And we also liked the coffee shop and will likely visit it again.
“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0
Yet another “responsible gun owner” demonstrates that that phrase is an oxymoron.
God Forbid That Anyone Should Ever Try To Right a Wrong 0
Supremacists gotta supremacist.
I’m a Southern Boy. I grew up under Jim Crow and went to segregated schools.
I know racists when I see them.
