Calling Out the Craven 0

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has had it with Republicans’ racism, bigotry, and hypocrisy.

Not that they care.

As I have mentioned before, Richard Nixon’s racist “Southern Strategy” has come full circle and consumed the Republican Party. The Republican Party is now the party of the New Secesh.

Debtification 0

At the Idaho State Journal, Jesse Robison makes the case that our health care system does one thing very, very well.

Dr. Rishi Manchanda said it well, “We have a health care system almost perfectly designed to create debt.”

And create debt it does: According to a February 2022 Consumer Credit Report, Americans are carrying $88 billion in medical debt, and that number is significantly underreported. Over 20 percent of U.S. adults have medical debt. Excessive medical costs are the primary cause of bankruptcy in America partially caused by deceptive Swiss cheese insurance policies.

Misdirection Play, Monopoly Man Dept. 0

Robert J. Shapiro makes a convincing case that the conventional wisdom, lovingly embraced by the Federal Reserve, that wage increases drive inflation, is, as my old boss used to say, “in error.” Here’s an excerpt from his piece (emphasis added):

It’s outsized corporate profits, not wage and salary gains, that have been and are outstripping inflation—and perhaps contributed to it. Inflation measures the increase in the prices that companies charge, and their profits represent what’s left over after paying their workers, suppliers, vendors, and taxes. During the pandemic, from the first quarter of 2020 to the third quarter of 2022, post-tax corporate profits jumped 49.1 percent. That’s nearly three times the 16.8 percent increase in all workers’ incomes from wages, salaries, and benefits.

Lowering the Barr 0

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gene Collier looks are recent revelations as to the extent of former Attorney-General Bill Barr’s efforts to cover up for curate Donald Trump’s image and suggests that Barr may have set a new standard for U. S. Attorneys-General:

America has long endured attorneys general who’ve demonstrated far less interest in the law or the Constitution than in the political goals of the presidents who appointed them — John Mitchell went to prison for serving Richard Nixon’s nefarious purposes, for example — but Barr might well set new standards for duplicity by the time his total machinations are fully understood.
