The Rule of Lawless 0

The Arizona Republic’s E. J. Montini contrasts Donald Trump’s coddling of convicted rioters with his incarceration of innocent immigrants. A snippet:

Abrego Garcia has not been convicted of a crime. And, like the other deportees, he had no opportunity to defend himself in court.

That wasn’t the case for the 1,600 individuals charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

“History Does Not Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes”* 0

Michael in Norfolk hears a rhyme. Here’s a bit; follow the link for context.

Add in Hitler’s claims to justify seizing parts of neighboring nations (the need for resources and space) which sound like the Felon’s demands that Denmark hand over Greenland to America and the parallels become even more stark.

Dump the Facts, Ma’am 0

Rebecca Watson reports on a recent study that indicates conservatives dislike, distrust, and disbelieve science. Here’s a bit from her article:

But this study showed that the Republican plan to politicize all of science has had even greater success than anyone thought, because conservatives don’t even trust the science that does conform to their worldview. In a survey of nearly 8,000 Americans, conservatives distrusted all 35 different scientific professions they were asked about, including fields like industrial chemistry, because now, after decades of propaganda, they believe that all of science is a “leftist hobby” and that universities are havens of leftwing bias.

Methinks the findings of this study shed some light on the Trump madladministration’s efforts to gut federal scientific research programs.

DOGE Bull in the China Shop 0

El Reg reports that DOGE and the Trump maladministration are gutting the United States’s cyber security efforts. A snippet:

When it comes to technology security, let’s face it. We’re lame and we’re lazy. But we don’t normally go out of our way to make it worse. Until now. Until President Donald Trump and his cohort of tech minions, better known as Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), took over.

You might think, if you’re outside the US, who cares? Unfortunately, whether you like it or not, the US has long taken the lead in technical security.

Follow the link for the details, and, remember, persons who don’t know how stuff works should not be put in charge of working that stuff.

“History Does Not Repeat Itself, but It Often Rhymes”* 0

At the Detroit Free Press, John Lindstrom hears a rhyme. Here’s a bit of the cadence:

. . . the Trump administration has resurrected one of the great instruments of tyranny: “lettres de cachet,” an order from the king, usually used to order someone’s imprisonment. Such “lettres” were among the many issues causing the French Revolution. They historically stemmed from the concept of “Rex solutas est a legibus,” or the “King is released from the law” and able to do whatsoever he ? or she ? chooses. You didn’t like someone, didn’t matter why, the king would issue an order for your arrest.

Clearly Trump is behaving as though he is above the law . . . .
