This New Gilded Age 2
At the Portland Press-Herald, James McGuire argues that the increasing concentration of great wealth in few hands is harming the polity. A snippet:
Meanwhile, those who shape policy often live entirely insulated from its consequences. They do not rely on public transportation, wait weeks for medical appointments or wonder whether the heat can stay on through winter. They speak easily about “belt tightening” and “market discipline” because they will never feel the belt or the discipline themselves.
Methinks he makes some good points.

This is absolutely correct, as a for instance, I was appalled by the US Embassy in Copenhagen deciding to insultingly remove the flags honoring the fallen Danes who fought alongside us in Afgahnistan.
A total of 44 Danish soldiers were killed before the Scandinavian country officially pulled out all of its personnel in 2021. The flags placed in flower boxes at the U.S. building in Copenhagen had their names on them before they were removed by embassy staff.
This was the move of Kenneth Howery (to please traitor trump) who is the Ambassador to Denmark and is only notable for being a member of the PayPal Mafia with Musk and Peter Thiel. Anyone with the slightest diplomatic acumen wouldn’t do this but as a billionaire asshole he moves fast and breaks things.
