   I have no moral problems with the death penalty.  I do have a practical problem and Brendan speaks to it.  We get it wrong far too often.

   I actually have a moral problem with the death penalty, because (as you say) we get it wrong far too often.

   what could be more immoral than the unjust execution of an innocent person, with no ramifications for the executioner?

   if the DP was moral, any governor who signed an death warrant for someone who was later found to be innocent would also be subject to the DP, because executing the innocent is murder.

   that’s why i prefer life: no one risks innocent blood on their hands, and the state is afforded a way to rectify unjust imprisonment.

   I say I don’t have a moral objection because, on a theoretical level, I believe that some persons do things so heinous as to forfeit their right to be a part of society.

   We seem unable to translate the theory to practice, though, and therefore should stop trying.
