We are a failing state.
I am not a lawyer (though at one time I thought I wanted to be one), but this seems like a pretty clear cut case of assault and battery.
My brother has umpired amateur and scholastic baseball for many years. He makes a little pin money from it, but, mostly, he does it because he loves the game. He has remarked several times on the increase of incivility on the part of coaches and fans and, to a lesser extent, players, in the past few years.
It’s driving umpires away and killing the game.
