Yet another reminder that “responsible gun owner” is an oxymoron:

“What we are dealing with are a couple of individuals that were recklessly, negligently shooting towards a roadway and they were shooting high powered weapons and we believe that weapon, due to their recklessness and negligence ended up discharging into the arm of a juvenile young man,” Kevin Daniels, Sanpete County Attorney, said.

According to the Sanpete Sheriff’s Office, the boy was in a vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 89 just before 1:30 p.m. just north of Mount Pleasant when a bullet went through the windshield and hit his shoulder. He was transported to the Utah Valley Hospital where the bullet was removed. His wound was deemed non-life-threatening.

Neighborly politeness:

Officers say a man, around 20 years old, was in his apartment holding a gun. He told police it accidentally went off.

The bullet traveled through the wall and grazed his neighbor, a woman in her 60s, in another unit.

The man went over to check on the woman and stayed with her until officers arrived.

One more time, “accidentally” is not a synonym of “negligently.”

The hunt for politeness never ends.

According to New York State Police Troop D Spokesman Jack Keller, Joshua Morgan, from Newport, Herkimer County, was part of a deer hunting party in a wooded area north of NYS Route 5S in the Town of Frankfort, when he was accidentally shot by another member of his hunting party. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Was it his antlers or his fluffy white tail?

Aside:

Please note, I am not against hunting. I grew up with hunters, and I do like a bit of venison.

I’m against stupid.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports on two social scientists who have taken a step back from immediacy and identified four characteristics common to mass shooters. Here they are; follow the link for details.

First, these mass shooters had early childhood trauma and exposure to violence at an early age.

Second, practically every mass shooter they studied had reached an identifiable crisis point in the weeks or months leading up to the shooting.

Third, most of the shooters had studied the actions of other shooters and sought validation for their motives.

Fourth, the shooters all had the means to carry out their plans.

Only one of them can be addressed by the polity, and that is the last one.

And more guns is not the answer.

A polite society is a clean society.

Even though she asked her doctor and family to keep the baby’s sex a secret and asked her mom to throw a gender reveal party for her, she still knew in her heart the life she was carrying was a little girl. Teresa was 21 weeks pregnant when she died, and she had already picked out a name for her daughter — Luna.

Teresa died Monday night in what police said was an accidental shooting, sparked when her boyfriend, 18-year-old Shawn Patrick Burse, was cleaning a loaded rifle beside her.

Politeness goes to the dogs.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as 31-year-old Richard Jordan of Chatfield. This happened last Friday around 6:30 p.m. during an argument between Jordan and his girlfriend. It took place inside his residence at the 13,000 Block of Highway 52 SE.

At one point, the woman said she fell to the ground. Deputies said the argument escalated, and the dog tried to protect the woman by nipping at Jordan.

Jordan then allegedly shot the family dog with a 12 gauge shotgun and left the scene. The dog was an 8-year-old pitbull lab mix.

Be polite in your big box store.

A man is reported to have accidentally fired a round from his pistol on Monday in a Stillwater Walmart.

(snip)

(Police Capt. Kyle–ed.) Gibbs said the report indicates that an older man accidentally fired a round near the store’s jewelry department. The gun appears to have still been in his holster when the shot was fired.

“He said he’d dropped it earlier,” Gibbs said. “There is speculation that his jacket snagged the trigger.”

No one was injured and the man was asked to leave the store.

Do not let politeness go to waist.

The 25-year-old man told deputies he forgot he had a gun concealed in his waistband, and as he was changing clothes, the weapon dropped out of his waistband and onto the floor and discharged, striking him in the foot, sheriff’s officials said.
