Have a close shave with politeness.

A 36-year-old man was showing his gun to someone in Benny’s Barber Shop when he accidentally fired it. The bullet pierced the wall, went into Saylor’s Pizza which is next door, and struck a 15-year-old in the ankle.

Honestly, these bozos need to stop acting as if they are lugging around Mattel Fanner 50s.

Pick a qualified teacher for your lesson in politeness.

A friend was showing a 35-year-old Conestoga man how to clean a handgun at a Columbia-area shooting range when it fired, critically injuring the man Thanksgiving Day, police said.

(snip)

“A friend was attempting to show the victim the proper use of and how to break down and clean a handgun when it accidentally discharged,” the sergeant said. “The friend felt (!–ed.) the gun was clear and free of any bullets.”

“Sadly, this is how many accidental shootings take place, when they feel the gun is empty and attempt to clean it,” Geier said.

The hunt for politeness continues apace.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the accident happened about 3 p.m. Saturday while 11 family members were hunting deer on 50 acres of woods and fields behind a home in Hudson.

A 34-year-old Wolcottville man was shot below the right cheekbone when two hunters who were standing next to each other fired several times at three deer that were running toward the middle of the field. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Sunday.

Politeness is relative.

An 11-year-old boy was in serious condition Sunday evening after what appears to be an accidental shooting by a teenage relative earlier that afternoon.

(snip)

Deputies responded to the 12400 block of Admiralty Way at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. They were told an unknown suspect had shot the boy and fled. A K-9 unit was sent out to help deputies track the shooter. “In the process of conducting their search, they determined that it was the older sibling who had been involved, not an unknown subject,” Lt. David Bowman said.

Guns and safety go together.

Police say the woman and her 15-year-old son where sitting in their vehicle when the teen removed a gun from under a seat.

According to police, the teen pulled the trigger thinking the gun had an external safety that would prevent the gun from firing. However, the gun had a trigger assembly safety and went off when the he pulled the trigger.

EPD says the woman was shot in the back.

If the lady had also had a gun, no doubt this would not have happened.

Let nothing take a back seat to politeness.

A 19-year-old woman was found shot in the back while sitting in the front passenger seat of a Toyota Camry at the restaurant at 2363 College Drive, Coppola said.

Detectives believe the shooting happened in the 5000 block of Florida Street as the teenage boy, who was sitting in the rear seat of the Camry, accidently fired the handgun.

Never give politeness the cold shoulder.

The victim’s neighbor called for help around 6:45 a.m. and said he saw the man emerge from his home on Thomas Street near Thunder Drive with a gunshot wound to the chest, Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Cosby said.

The wounded man, who was not publicly identified, was able to tell responding officers his gun went off as he was removing it from his shoulder holster, according to the lieutenant.

Ron Littlepage is taken aback. Here’s a bit; follow the link for the rest.

The outstanding quote of last week has to go to state Rep. Matt Gaetz.

He’s pushing a bill that would allow the 1.4 million Floridians who have concealed carry gun permits to openly carry their firearms.

During a House committee debate on the legislation, Gaetz had this to say, according to Politico Florida:

The bill restores a right “granted not by government but by God.” Say what?

As someone who was raised in the Baptist church and who graduated from a Baptist university, Baylor, I’ve read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations more than once.

But I must have missed the part about God coming out in favor of open carry.

Jeez Louise, you can’t make this stuff up.

As a Southerner, I often find myself resenting the way white Southerners* are portrayed as dumbass hicks. Even when I was a kid, I couldn’t stand the Beverly Hillsillies.

It’s been a theme since the earliest days of film and, later, broadcast media (we won’t even talk about print). Find any old radio or television comedy show with a character from the South, you will find a dumbass hick. Heck, Tennessee Ernie Ford made a fortune playing dumbass hicks. Even Andy Griffith achieved his first great success as a dumbass hick in No Time for Sergeants. And don’t forget Jim Nabors and George Lindsey.

But, honest to Pete, as long as a great lot of white Southerners continue act like dumbass hicks, I have to concede that they are asking for it.
_______________

*The portrayal of black Southerners is another, much more evil story.

Put politeness out to pasture.

Daria Goggins pointed along the dirt driveway to the field where her two Holsteins would have normally been begging for hay each time she and her brother Mark drove by.

The large black and white twins Theodore and Isadora were no longer there.

Standing in front of foundation that was recently poured to build a new barn for her cows at her Richmond home, Daria Goggins talks to reporters on Saturday about finding her pair of Herefords shot on Friday afternoon.

The local constabulary is convinced that it was not a hunting accident.
