Play politely.

A 16-year-old girl died Sunday morning in Putnam County after a teenage boy was playing with a loaded shotgun and it went off, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Rayne Michelle-Marie Dettmann was shot in the upper body by the 16-year-old boy about 4:30 a.m. with a 12 gauge shotgun at her Pomona Park home. The boy had retrieved the shotgun from inside her home and first pointed it at two other friends. He then pointed it at her and pulled the trigger, deputies said.

The polite mail it in.

Bachart admitted that on Dec. 2, 2014, she sent a package with a loaded Ruger Blackhawk .357 revolver and ammunition into the mail at a post office in McCall. The package was sent to an address in Windsor, Connecticut.

While in route to Connecticut, the package arrived at a processing and distribution center in Springfield, Massachusetts. When a U.S. Postal Service employee picked up the package, the gun discharged. The employee was not seriously injured, but sought medical attention for ringing ears and stinging hands.

Now, about those intelligence tests . . . .

Canadians live up to their reputation for politeness.

Acting Det. Martin Taylor told Metro police responded to the scene on the 100 block of Woodford Crescent S.W. just before 11 p.m. where a man said he had been shot while inside his home.

Taylor said shortly after police received another call from a neighbour who said they had “accidentally discharged a firearm inside their residence.”

Works of politeness were performed in the passive voice (emphasis was added).

Deputies responded to a home on Clinard Road in Barren Plains around 4 p.m. Wednesday and said they found 15-year-old Justin McGhee had been shot once with a .22-caliber rifle.

Police said they tried to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived. McGhee later died from his injuries at Northcrest Medical Center.

According to the sheriff’s office, they believe the rifle was accidentally discharged while it was being unloaded.

Afterthought:

I’m mildly surprised the story didn’t say that “dying took place.”

Politeness is essential when one is sojourning at the lodging house.

A 10-year-old was taken to the hospital after he was accidentally shot by another child inside a hotel room in north Nashville.

(snip)

Police said the three kids were playing with a cap gun when one of them picked up a real gun and accidentally shot the victim.

Droning On, Meet the Polite Society 0

From the BBC:

Mr Meredith explained that the drone was hovering above his neighbourhood. When it moved over his property, he shot it down.

Three shots from his Benelli short-barrel shotgun took the craft out of the sky.

“I went to my safe, retrieved my shotgun, went back out,” he said. “I felt that I was well within my rights as an American citizen to defend my property.”

He explained that he was concerned that the drone was invading his privacy and that of his daughters and that it was not the first time a drone had been sighted in the area.

Four men, including the owner of the downed drone, later confronted Mr Meredith outside his house.

Mr. Meredith was arrested and charged with “offences relating to the discharge of a firearm.”

As much as I disdain the reckless, feckless deployment of firearms, I must confess that, if Mr. Meredith starts a GoFundMe for his defense, I might kick in five bucks.

Play politely.

An 8-year-old boy died in an apparent accidental shooting Thursday, police said. It was at least the sixth such shooting of a child and at least the fourth death in Harris County this year. . . .

Also in the room at the time was an older boy, 11. He told Houston police investigators that he and the 8-year-old were tossing a pistol back and forth when it suddenly fired. The younger boy was struck in the head and died at the scene.

Greet prospective home buyers politely.

A five-year-old child accidentally shot his seven-year-old sister in the leg after the siblings followed a cat into a bedroom and found a handgun under a bed, the Hanover Sheriff’s Office said. Saturday afternoon’s accidental shooting happened when the family was viewing the Beaverdam Road home that was for sale.“

The investigation revealed that while the family was viewing a home for sale, the two children followed a cat into a bedroom. One child followed the cat under the bed, where the handgun was stored,” investigators said. “The victim was shot in the leg and had non-life threatening injuries.”

No charges will be filed because what the hey! stuff happens.

Aside:

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, how is it not criminal negligence to leave a loaded gun under the damned bed in a house open for real estate showings?

The polite inspect the merchandise.

Apparently there was a bullet in the chamber that struck Selena Lewis, 16, of Maiden, in the chest, said Capt. Joel Fish of the Catawba County Sheriff’s office. The girl died en route to the hospital or shortly after she arrived.

She had traveled to a home at 2818 Rocky Ford Road near Newton on Sunday with two 21-year-olds, one of them a friend. Lewis had recently met the driver, Clayton Webb Jr. He was interested in buying the rifle and was looking it over when it fired. Lewis was taking a picture of it.

The device appears to be capable of performing its primary function, as the young lady is now deceased.
