A 4-year-old girl is fighting for her life after police say she shot herself in the face with a gun found in a Yonkers home.

Whatever shall we do about the epidemic of self-politeness?

At least this fellow had the good grace to be embarrassed when caught politing himself.

A man shot in the leg at the county park on Monday accidentally fired the gun, police said.

Police identified the victim as Antonio Quantico Davis of North Charleston. He had a gunshot wound to his left leg, police said.

“Davis initially stated that he had been shot by another person, then later changed his story, admitting that he had accidentally shot himself,” police said.

Cat got your gun?

A 19-year-old Onalaska man was accidentally shot in the leg on the 200 block of King Street by his 22-year-old roommate, who was making the cat chase the red dot produced by his handgun’s laser sighting system.

A 36-year-old Emmaus man accidentally shot himself in the groin while holstering his weapon during a class at the Bethlehem police gun range, according the city’s police chief.

Just the sort of fellow I want to see carrying a concealed firearm, yes-indeedy-do.

“In your face” politeness:

An Etowah County woman was hospitalized after she was shot in the face in what investigators believe was an accidental shooting Thursday night. . . .

Deputies responded after a man called 911 saying he’d shot his girlfriend in the face at their residence on Whites Chapel Road.

You can relax. More politeness patrols the polity.

At 4:13 a.m., three or more men broke through the front window of the Suburban Armory, at 1008 McDade Blvd., in Collingdale. Once inside the store, they stole semiautomatic handguns, and revolvers, said Steven Bartholomew, special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

“Upon arrival, police made contact with [the victim] outside of his residence with a gunshot wound to his left foot,” (Lt. Curtis–ed.) Muhannad said. “He stated that he was loading his gun and pointed it down toward his foot when the gun went off.”

According to Muhannad, the weapon was a modified shotgun.

“It was a shotgun that had apparently been altered,” Muhannad said. “The barrel had been sawed off, and the stock was shortened.”

Guns and stupid–always a delightful combination.

More friendly politeness in NRA Paradise . . .

Sapp was taken to the hospital early Monday with a single gunshot wound to the head from a .22 caliber rifle, allegedly received when he was shot by a friend, a 26-year-old male, when the rifle accidentally discharged.

. . . and another gun that “discharged” itself.

Per police, Mackeon Schulte, 15, and a friend he was spending the night with went to another friend’s home around 2:30am. The two wanted to wake the sleeping boy, so they rapped on his window and tossed pebbles at the glass. Shaken from his sleep, the boy looked out the window and saw two faces, but recognized neither, reports KULR. Scared, he reached for a gun that was in his room and fired through the window, reports the Billings Gazette. Mackeon was hit in the head. A neighbor tells the Gazette he heard someone say, “Dude, you just got shot.”

Today there is one less friend in NRA Paradise.

If you can’t be polite to your friends, who can you be polite to?

The alleged shooter, a 26-year-old man, told police he was handling a .22-caliber rifle when it went off, striking his friend in the head, Woodruff said.

Practice random acts of politeness.

“The older brother pointed [the gun] at the younger brother, pulled the trigger and apparently it was loaded. And he died from the shot.” said the mayor.

The gun was in a box — one of the boys found it and began playing with it.

Anthony Williamson, 50, was accidentally shot in the abdomen by his friend, Jonathan Jordan, 50, after the two had traveled from Duluth to purchase a handgun after agreeing to meet the seller in Newnan. The transaction took place in the Academy Sports parking lot.

The firearm discharged while Jordan was examining the gun, according to Capt. John Lewis of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Lewis also stated that the transaction was legal.

(And yet another gun fires itself . . . .)

In a corollary to the Ten Commandments, it is directed that you be polite to your father and your mother.

A man accidentally shot his 71-year-old father inside a southwest Omaha house on Thursday, police said.

Dober’s son’s gun accidentally fired about 2:15 p.m. at 10205 P St., police said.

Police did not release the name or age of Dober’s son and said they had not arrested him. He is an adult, police said.

. . . and yet another gun that fires its own damned self, yet another gun nut who will not be held responsible for his nuttery.

And then there’s this.

Be polite to younger family members.

Warren Township Police Chief Don Bishop says 15-year-old Jesse Hayes died Monday. He was shot Saturday night near Leavittsburg in Trumbull County.

Bishop says the 28-year-old cousin told police he had been talking with Jesse about hunting and had a few beers. He was showing the boy a new shotgun when he pointed it at Jesse and pulled the trigger. He told police he didn’t think it was loaded.

Guns, beer, and stupid: always a good combination in NRA Paradise.

Afterthought:

If this is not negligent homicide, then there can be no such thing.

You’ve heard of an “omnibus”? The polite take the “ammobus.”

A man who accidentally discharged his weapon while using the bathroom inside a Megabus traveling on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in Des Plaines Tuesday night was ultimately subdued by a passenger and held until police arrived.

Police say a 4-year-old boy was wounded when a gun apparently accidentally discharged and his head was grazed by a bullet in Ann Arbor. . . .

Ann Arbor police Detective Sgt. Pat Hughes says . . . three other children — two boys and a girl all under the age of 10 — were at the home at the time.

Other than that, police still haven’t figured out exactly who did what to whom.

The car carrying five friends was eastbound on Harvey Road near Texas 6 by Post Oak Mall when the firearm, which police declined to identify, discharged and hit the driver, authorities said. The driver was able to pull over safely, according to Assistant Chief Chuck Fleeger, who said the front passenger apparently was attempting to disassemble the firearm when it went off just before 3 p.m.

The stupid. It burns.

Bay of Plenty Police District Command Centre’s Sergeant Dennis Murphy says police were alerted to the incident around 8 eight o’clock.

“A 16 year old male was duck hunting, and while hunting a firearm was discharged. As a result of that he is now unfortunately deceased.”

“Was discharged” by whom, precisely?

The intellectual dishonesty of reportage on “accidental” gun deaths is stunning.

SAPD was called to an accidental shooting of a 3-year-old boy in the 2500 block of Babcock Road around 10:30 Saturday morning. . . .

SAPD said the boy was somehow able to get a hold of a handgun and was shot in the upper body. SAPD did not identify the type of handgun.

In Maine, there is an effort to lower the minimum hunting age from 10 to eight. In the Bangor Daily News, Don Loprieno explains that the effort is not about the joys of communing with nature in the northwoods wilderness, nor about putting dinner on the table or learning to live off the land.

It’s all about the Benjamins.

This was not a grassroots movement. It’s part of a national effort mounted by a coalition of out-of-state, well-funded organizations that wield considerable influence. Called innocuously enough the Families Afield program, it was established by the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the National Wild Turkey Federation, allied with the NRA and the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation. Why? Because the number of hunters is declining almost everywhere, so younger children are being targeted since kids who start hunting early tend to continue as they get older.
