Defying the advice of the Wizard, Madelon Sprengnether does pay attention the man behind the curtain. She is not impressed.
Mr. Trump, I would argue, does not feel big, powerful, or in control. His appeal to a certain segment of the US voting population seems based on his identification with them in their self-perceived weakness and vulnerability, masked by an authoritarian promise that he alone can fix things—by consulting the “shows,” holding “meetings,” trusting the advice of his adult children (all of whom work for him and are hence beholden to him) and himself.

I have from time to time noticed that one mark of a really good idea is that, once someone else thinks of it, it seems blindingly obvious.
Driftglass and Bluegal point out, in their latest podcast, that, thanks to the Fox News/Wingnut talk radio bubble, the hate-full Republican base likely believe they are the majority, even though they are not, because they have insulated themselves from other views.
Hence the coming rage when their candidate loses.
Aside:
