The Scofflaw 0

At the Las Vegas Sun, Leonard Green looks at Donald Trump’s practice of using songs at his rallies, even after being served legal notice by the songs’ copyright holders not to do so.

He closes his article with a suggestion for the next song’s copyright Trump should infringe.

What’s in a Name-Calling? 1

At Psychology Today Blogs, Loriann Oberlin explores the psychology of name-calling, which has become an increasing aspect of dis coarse discourse. A snippet (which sounds a lot like someone in the news):

Calling others names they do not deserve stems from insecurities, displaced aggression, or the need to dominate and/or control a partner/friend/coworker/etc.

Those who do not have much ego strength build themselves up by tearing down innocent others. It’s a maladaptive pattern that could stem from learned behavior—that is, witnessing others do this in childhood. It may also arise from unresolved emotional issues.

Follow the link for her suggestions for dealing with this pestilence upon the polity.

Rat: How long does it take for the sun to travel around the Earth? Goat: What are you talking about? The sun doesn't travel around the Earth. The Earth travels around the sun. Rat: Don't tell me you fell for that Earth-round-the-sun hoax, you gullible government stooge. Goat: When did we all lose our minds? Pig: I may never have had one.

“So Your Source Is ‘Trust Me, Bro’?'” 0

The Pillow of the Community loses an argument with a 12-year-old. And other stuff.

Aside, Accessory after the Fact Dept.:

Yesterday, First Daughter, her son, and I visited Norfolk’s Gardens by the Sea (which is a marvelous place which you should visit if you are ever in these parts). As we entered the visitors’ center, we saw an old white guy–maybe even older than I–wearing a tee-shirt that read “I’m voting for the felon.”

Honest to Pete, it made me ashamed to be an old white guy.

“Chicago Is Her Kind of Town” 0

In a hoot of a bit, Stephen Colbert interviews (ersatz) Melania Trump.

Afterthought:

When I worked for the railroad, I spent a lot of time in Chicago. Chicago gave me some of my fondest memories.

Hate Fair 0

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Soleil Ho visited her family in rural Illinois and accompanied them to the local state fair and found herself surrounded with persons bearing Trump paraphernalia. She found the experience somewhat–er–disconcerting. Here’s a bit from her article (emphasis added):

Walk around a place like that Illinois county fair and you’ll see that MAGA comes off like an addiction — an obsession that seems much more emotional than rational. It’s the mean-spirited aspect of America, one that looks upon people like my refugee family as a lesser-than group, even if we might be tolerated individually. It’s heartbreaking to be around, knowing that there’s little logic or data that can dislodge a thorn that’s been absorbed so thoroughly.

All the News that Fits 0

Michael in Norfolk thinks that today’s press is missing the point.

. . . . too many “journalists” continue the pretense that Trump is normal and stupidly treat the election as a horse race and utterly fail the public which deserves a candid assessment of Trump’s mental illness and decline that is spiraling before our eyes.

Mangy comments at the Youtube page:

Mangy Fetlocks has noticed certain traits and behaviors that seem universal among adherents to the MAGA movement. For those who wish to become MAGAts (but have not sustained any serious head injury or possess a profound personality disorder) Mangy wrote this song to outline some of the basic tenets every good, blindly-obedient MAGAt needs to master.

Dis Coarse Discourse, Reprise 0

Retired attorney, judge, and a 24-year veteran of the Kansas Army National Guard Thomas Arnhold reveals what he has learned about himself from Republican campaign ads in Missouri. For example:

I am a despicable human, and I am an enemy of the country. The announcers and politicians speak of those not siding with them in a tone that drips with disdain and venom. Apparently, people like me are bent on turning the United States into a cesspool.
