“Frozen Bee’s Knees” 2

This bee seems to like the blue salvia. It leaves the red salvia alone.

I think it’s a bumbledy bee, but it seems a bit on the small side compared to the one that once chased me from the barn to the house when I was a kid.

It’s not a good idea to accidentally step on a bumbledy bee. Bumbledy bees have smooth stingers and can sting repeatedly with no harm to themselves.

And I do mean repeatedly.

There was indeed no place to hide.

“It’s Turtles All the Way Down” 0

We went to the Gardens yesterday, after breakfast at the club (it’s open to the public–breakfast was quite nice and the staff was very friendly).

Turtles

Quite a little group of families on their way to a birthday garden party gathered to watch. One of the mothers told us that the turtles are red-eared sliders, which, frankly, sounds like something you could buy, but wouldn’t want to, at a White Castle.

Watch a short turtle video (AVI).

As soon as we left the house, the sun disappeared. Nevertheless, I am going to inflict some of my pictures from yesterday’s outing to the Norfolk Botanical Garden on the inner webs.

It looks as if the house finch whose picture I posted a while ago has found a girlfriend.

Admittedly, it’s not a great shot–the morning sun was glaring on the glass, but I knew that, if I tried to open the door, it would startle them away.

But I think it’s a neat moment.

These two lounged in the shade a few feet from my deck. As the shadow of the tree moved, they moved with it.
