“Macho Macho Men” 0
Turns out the cowboy cosplay isn’t fun any more.
The Bundy Bros just want to take their AK-47s and go home.

Watch the WSJ columnist assert that the “conservative establishment” (whatever that is) did not do what they have done.

The Cost of Cowboy Cosplay 0
Balloon Juice has a pretty good rundown on the Bundy Bund’s burden on the treasury.
The costs of the upcoming judicial proceedings is not addressed.

How about we all mail Donald Trump’s campaign headquarters a nice crisp white sheet to wear at his next campaign appearance?

Thom Fain looks at how the GOP shot itself in the foot and created Trump. A snippet:
In related news, Shaun Mullen explains that the New York Times doesn’t get it because it’s trapped in the villagers’ narrative, while E. J. Dionne points out that the secesh are still rising again after all these years.

Duking it out (cough! cough!) in Anaheim:

One Klansman stabbed a counter-protester with the decorative end of a flag pole, Wyatt said. That stabbing set off a vicious brawl in which Klan members and protesters fought across an entire city block.
I wonder just what might be going on to that has so emboldened the secesh?
Don’t Overlook the Obvious 2
Leonard Pitts, Jr., tells of a conversation that took place just a little while ago. Here’s a bit from his article:
“Maybe I could have done that a little better,” he said.
One of his friends wasn’t having it. “They were afraid of you for a couple of reasons,” said Denny Jacobs. “Number one, you were black.”
Obama parried the suggestion, saying what he always says when asked about race and his presidency. “I have no doubt there are people who voted against me because of race . . . or didn’t approve of my agenda because of race. I also suspect there are a bunch of people who are excited or voted for me because of the notion of the first African-American president. . . . Those things cut both ways,” he said.
Jacobs, who is white, was unpersuaded. “That’s what they were afraid of, Mr. President,” he insisted.
Dan Simpson also has something to see on this matter. A nugget:

Gerald commented on my Original Intent post earlier today and sums up the last seven years:
(Republians) are attempting to treat POTUS Obama’s presidency as 3/5’s (of a presidency).
“Original Intent” 3
“Original intent” is neither a legitimate interpretation of history nor a coherent legal theory. It is a racist primal scream.

George Smith points out that the Republican Party is no longer the party of Lincoln, but is now the party of John Wilkes Booth.
He’s quite right, you know.
The Republican Party has become a vile and loathsome thing.
Still Rising Again after All These Years 0
This seems to have Wingnut World and the New Secesh in the uproar of the day.
After all, it’s not as if white folks have anything to feel guilty about . . . .

And so slowly descends the curtain on the latest iteration of white privilege performance theatre, performed by those who proclaim themselves patriots of the country which they betray.
No self-awareness. No self-awareness whatsoever.

The costume party continues. From TPM:
The remaining diehards at the Malheur National Wildlife Center have re-dubbed it “Camp Finicum.”
National attention on the standoff has waned since Finicum’s death, but things have continued to get weirder. Franklin Graham, the minister, has gotten involved at some level to try to bring an end to the standoff. Ammon Bundy, the main leader who is now jailed in Portland, reportedly in solitary confinement, has been making regular statements to the public via recorded messages released by his lawyers, and police have tightened the cordon around the refuge even as the handful of militants holed up inside ?have sounded the call for their supporters on the outside to “stand up” in their defense.

Gut Out the Vote 0
I’m so old that I can remember when North Carolina was considered the beacon of progress for the “New South.” We have latterly seen since that since 1865 there is not and has never been a “New South,” and there has been damned little progress.

I was living in the Philadelphia area when the MOVE assault took place. Had I happened to look out ny bedroom windows that day, I would have seen the smoke from the fire that eventually wiped out a city block, dispossessing not only MOVE, but also its neighbors.
Instead, while West Philly burned, I sat in my easy chair reading a book while listening to music.
Here’s a nugget from Jone’s piece; follow the link for the full article.
Solomon Jones look back and sees similarities between MOVE and the Bundy Bund, plus one glaring difference:
Let me be clear. That wouldn’t happen if they were anything other than white men in cowboy hats.
(snip)
Compare their story with the tale of MOVE, a black naturalist group whose yearslong conflict with law enforcement in Philadelphia ended in fiery tragedy.
