In foreign policy you have to wait twenty-five years to see how it comes out.

And yet another gun fires itself . . . .

Officers responded to the home, and witnesses told police that a handgun was being improperly handled when it went off, hitting the woman in the face.

Despite the narrative from the Weather Channel, my newspaper delivery person somehow managed to deliver my newspaper.

Afterthought:

This is in no way to disparage those who have suffered damage from the storm.

It is in every way to contemn the hysterical Dorian hurricane porn perpetrated by televised media.

As long as inequality and other social problems plague us, populists will try to exploit them.

The Weather Channel 0

Give me a break.

Indeed, I was on the phone with an associate today and asked him what he thought about the Weather Channel. He said, “They just want to get people upset.”

Me, I can’t stomach the Weather Channel for more than 15 minutes at a time (unless it’s snowstorm pictures–and then it’s the pictures, not the channel).

A short synopsis of today’s hurricane coverage:

“It’s chaos here in Charleston, South Carolina! Look! A tree has been blown over!”

Fifteen minutes later:

“It’s chaos here in Charleston, South Carolina! Look! A tree has been blown over!”

And it’s the same damned tree.

In other news, it’s looks like we’re going to get off easy on this one.

Thom wonders why our media refuse to connect the dots between climate change and the increase in violent weather.

Consistent with what Thom is saying, the news here right now is all Dorian all the time.

Politeness is a family value.

Police said the mother was alone in the bedroom when she heard noises from inside the house. The mother became startled as she was not expecting anyone to come over. The mother said she then saw someone running into the bedroom, at which point she fired her .38 special handgun, hitting her daughter once.

Aside:

Methinks events such as this–and I’ve noted a number of them in these electrons–are side-effects of the fear that forms part of Big Gun’s marketing tactics.
