Click Bait 0

David Evans, writing at Psychology Today Blogs, comments on the monetization of anger. A nugget:

Marketers, representing a wide variety of different corporate and political backgrounds, want potential customers or followers to click on their sites. And they’ve discovered that the best way to guarantee a click is to make sure their site arouses emotion.

And the best emotion for guaranteeing a favorable click is anger.

So, marketers, political organizations, and corporations have a financial stake in getting you angry!

It makes them money. The more people who click on their site, the more they can charge the advertisers who advertise with them.

And the things they post on their sites don’t even have to be true!

The man was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Gadsden Highway. The driver of the vehicle pulled over in the Nationwide Insurance parking lot at the corner of Gadsden Highway and Rock Creek Circle and called 911.

Cart Blanked 0

A golf cart fights back.

Five people were injured Friday at the US Open when one of several boxes being loaded onto a golf cart fell onto the accelerator and sent the cart into spectators.

The California Highway Patrol says a vendor parked the cart near the 16th hole at Pebble Beach and was walking away when a box fell onto the gas pedal, moving it forward as it circled at full speed.

Objectiveng to Science 0

At the Bangor Daily News, Basav Sen of the Climate Policy Project at the Institute for Policy Studies outlines the Trump administration’s war on science. A snippet:

Recently, the Department of Energy began referring to natural gas as “freedom gas,” which sounds like something straight out of satire site The Onion. Unintentional humor aside, this choice of terminology resembles the calculated debasement of language by totalitarian states.

Last November, when a report by government scientists contradicted Trump’s position and showed that the United States will suffer devastating consequences from climate change, the president simply declared that reality was irrelevant. “I don’t believe it” was his response.
