The State of Dis Union 0

I did not watch the State of the Union address.

I haven’t watched one for years. Some of my reasons are the same ones that Josh Marshall listed here. It has become a fatuous and boring ritual.

In fact, I think the last one I watched was in 1977, back when I lived in the Washington, D. C., area, and that was because someone gave me gallery tickets–I watched it in person (my view partially obscured by an ABC camera man).

With this president, though, it is especially fatuous. We have seen the pattern over and over.

Screw up.

Make speeches.

Screw up.

Make more speeches.

Screw up.

Make even more speeches.

And do nothing to change the screw-ups.

Making speeches is not taking action.

And when he takes action, it tends to in violation of the law, sensible policy, and the public interest.

Unless the public is defined as persons making more than $1.o00,000 a year.

Actually, he should make more speeches, take less action.

Finally, this is website is a hobby. It's a hobby in which I am deeply invested, about which I care deeply, and which has enabled me to learn a lot about computers and computing, but it is still ultimately an avocation, not a vocation; it is certainly not a money-making enterprise (unless you click the "Donate" button--go ahead, you can be the first!).
