Big Men . . . 0
. . . when they are packing.
Addendum:
Today’s local rag has another story about big men being big.
“I don’t understand,” said Peacock, owner of Farmer Frank’s Farm Market. “They were in a pen. What could they have done to deserve this?”
Peacock – a sergeant first class with the Army Reserve – said the goats appeared to have been shot in the head Saturday night, after he last checked on them.
Mark Herring Is an Excellent Attorney-General 0
You can know a man by the company he keeps. You can also know a man by the company he doesn’t keep.
By any indication, Mark Herring is a great guy.
The Prince William County* Republican Thursday introduced resolutions in the House of Delegates that would direct legislative committees to consider whether aspects of Herring’s official conduct constitute impeachable offenses.
Bob Marshall, one of the most retrograde demagogues in the Virginia House of Delegates, is offended that Mr. Herring’s hate quotient is too low; in Marshall’s view, Mr. Herring ain’t hatin’ enuf on the gays.
Indeed, he ain’t hatin’ at all. The politics of hate isn’t his thing.
(Actually, I have met Mr. Herring, not that he would remember me from Adam, and he is a great guy).
Aside:
Elections matter, folks. Voting is not a right. It is a duty.
You may see only a little bit of difference between the parties, but that little bit of difference can mean a hell of a big difference in day-to-day lives. There is no better example of this than the contrast between the current and the previous administrations in Virginia.
Vote, and when you do, vote in the real world, not in some fanciful world of purists, because the world ain’t pure (and, for that matter, neither are you and I, but that’s a different tale).
“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0
Display indiscriminate politeness.
Police spokesman Scott Leamon said the person was taken into custody by heavily armed SWAT officers around 6:30 p.m., more than an hour and a half after someone began firing shots from the roof of the Starlite Motel in the 4400 block of Melrose Avenue Northwest.
And in more news of the polite . . . .
A South Carolina woman shot and accidentally killed a friend while testing out his bulletproof vest.
Sheriff’s deputies in Anderson County said the victim, 26-year-old Blake Wardell, had been hanging out in a garage with about eight to 10 friends early Wednesday when they decided to try out the Kevlar vest.
Investigators said 18-year-old Taylor Ann Kelly fired a shot at Wardell’s chest but missed the Kevlar.
Somewhat surprisingly, police found that everyone involved was sober. The results of the IQ tests, though, have not come in.
Afterthought:
So there really is a “Starlite Motel.” Who woulda thunk?

Hey! Rubio! 0
Daniel Ruth is mildly skeptical of Marco Rubio’s readiness to hold the nuclear codes.
Ready for the presidency? Rubio isn’t ready to be promoted to sixth grade.

Nothing To Do, Nowhere To Go 1
Under 300k for the first time since I started following them here.

The four-week average of claims, a less-volatile measure than the weekly figure, dropped to 323,250 from 325,250 the week before.
The number of people continuing to collect benefits declined by 9,000 to 2.67 million in the week ended May 3, the fewest since December 2007.
Unchanged: The track record of Bloomberg’s “experts,” who couldn’t pick the winner in a one-horse race.

Politeness means keeping it clean.
The bullet struck the man’s 49-year-old father, shattering his femur, Findlay said.

What the Booman said.
You can say whatever the hell you want.
That doesn’t mean I have to be forced to listen to it.

I have not mentioned the melting of the West Antarctica ice sheet because I kept thinking, really, what else is there to say? Soon, probably not within my lifetime, but soon, Pine View Farm and its environs–and Virginia Beach, for that matter–will be all gone because of greed and inertia.
Shaun Mullen answered my question today. Just read it.
