Discussing Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s murder of two NYPD officers, Tony Norman exposes the empty cynicism of right-wing talking points. A nugget:
Mr. Lynch (New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association head Pat Lynch–ed.) insists that a man suspected of three shootings — two fatal — in one day was the extension of those who dared question the legitimacy of police training and tactics in lethal encounters with unarmed civilians.
Though it is a tenuous, nonsensical argument any kid taking high school philosophy could demolish, it is one that has emotional resonance for those who are uncomfortable with challenges to authority, even where it is most warranted.
