The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

The Root reports on a recent Quinnipiac University poll. Here’s the bit they latched on to.

The Quinnipiac University poll question was simple: “What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Donald Trump?”

The responses were fitting if he wasn’t the president of the United States. Leading the pack was “idiot” . . . .

In a related article, Andrew Malcolm comments on the ineptitude of the Comey firing:

The incident also underscores the desperate need for an influential adult aide by this headstrong president’s side who can say with effect, “No! Let’s think this through.” Forget his silly tweets. Some had hoped family members like son-in-law Jared Kushner or daughter Ivanka might play this role. Or chief of staff Reince Priebus.Apparently not.

Fat chance that. As Josh Marshall pointed out a long time ago, Trump will not allow anyone in his circle who might eclipse him, private or publicly.

We are a society of stupid. Nixon’s odious Southern Strategy has come full course and enabled stupid and venal to the Presidency, the cabinet, and the Congress.

The consequences will be are dire.

The Rule of Claw 0

Elie Mystall explains why those who are talking about a special prosecutor to investigate the firing of James Comey are telling themselves fairy tales. The whole piece is a gem and picking a snippet is difficult, but I managed to do so.

Of course, Congress is controlled by Republicans and Republicans have been playing the “there are no rules” game since America had the audacity to put a black man in charge. Mitch McConnell decided that black presidents only get to president for seven years, instead of eight, and won. “Deficit hawk” Paul Ryan passed a health care bill that will explode the deficit, and made people vote on it before they could read it and score it, and won. Everything that has happened in America over the past few years tells Congressional Republicans that they “win” when they simply ignore the “norms” of American governance.

You think they’ll change now? Why? WHY DO YOU THINK THAT?.

In relate news, Badtux sees a pattern:

This makes the third person in a row who was investigating Trump Administration connections to Russia who was fired.

Self-politeness is the politest kind.

Wichita police say 34-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the chest as he was handling a .38-caliber handgun Tuesday night.

He was at a home in the 1500 block of North Harvard, near 13th and Hillside, when the gun discharged shortly after 11 p.m., according to police records.

In yesterday’s performance of the frog and the scorpion, who knew that James Comey would end up playing the frog?

Certainly not James Comey, for he thought that he had served his masters well.

I am no fan of James Comey, as he grossly violated the public trust and may have swung the election. Nevertheless, I am confident that whomever The Donald selects to replace him will make him look like Prunella Purity.

And, make no mistake, it’s the racism that has brought us here. I’m not going to link it up now because it’s late as I write this, but a look at my posts in this category will enable you to catch my meaning, to get my drift.

“An Armed Society Is a Polite Society” 0

Politeness is a family affair.

Grieving friends and family of a Minnesota mom shot and killed by her fiancé were in court on Monday, demanding justice for her.

Lacey Kuschel, 35, was shot in the back and killed as she held 5-month-old daughter, Aspen. The shooting happened at 2 a.m. on Feb. 25 in rural Todd County.

Tyler Slagerman told Todd County sheriff’s deputies he had been out drinking with friends that night and that he had grabbed the rifle because he thought he heard dogs barking. But, he says, the rifle accidentally fired, killing Lacey and narrowly missing Aspen.

Follow the link to read why the woman’s father expresses skepticism regarding the allegation that this was yet another random happenstance just by chance could have happened to anyone who had been drinking and decided to exercise his Second Amendment rights because he thought he heard dogs barking in the night unfortunate incident in which a gun fired itself tragic accident.

And thus passeth another day in NRA Paradise.
