The Catholic Church has no monopoly on malefactors. For every hinky Catholic priest, there is a Ted Haggard.
But the cover-up, well, that’s something else. Management is culpable for protecting and enabling the conduct. And managment continues to spin and evade its culpability.
I know someone whose cousin was molested by a priest in a Catholic school a generation ago a long way away. Unlike most kids who are sexually abused, whether by a relative or an acquaintance (and relatives and family friends are the most common molesters, despite the current paranoia about strangers), he told his mother as soon as he got home.
She made all hell break loose.
